Özet

This study aimed to investigate whether introducing WebQuest as a teacher professional development training model can improve teachers' web searching and evaluating skills, and help teachers develop tasks to improve students' higher order thinking.In this study, teachers were provided with a 20-hour WebQuest training. Using a case study method, the study was carried out with six in-service teachers in Istanbul. These teachers who had the enthusiasm to participate in the training and implement new ideas in their teaching voluntarily participated in the study.As a data collection method, participants were interviewed by using a semi-structured interview. Also, performance assessments to evaluate teachers' web searching and evaluating skills were conducted before and after the WebQuest training. Furthermore, teachers kept a diary and answered three questions after each training day.The findings of the study revealed that with the WebQuest training, all the teachers who participated in the study improved their web searching and evaluating skills, acquired awareness about higher order thinking skills, and created activities that promote students' higher order thinking skills. Furthemore they embraced the idea that using WebQuest Model in teaching process may be the solution for some educational problems.Furthermore, the teachers participated in the study also stated that; (1) The WebQuest model can be used for preventing homework students complete by surfing the web and copy/pasting without going through any cognitive processes; (2) The WebQuest model can be used for performance homework which is a task that the teachers usually have problems guiding.
