94 medium Cype. All halophytic soils are strongly saline but out of psammophytic soils 14,2 % are of medium nature, 76,1 % slightly saline and 9,5 % are non-saline. Saline soils are richer in Na, CI and S04 contents too as compared to sandy ones. Impact of population increase, tourism and industrialisation on halophytes as well as psammophytes all along the coastal belt have also been investigated.93 8. SUMMARY In all 207 taxa belonging to 47 families have been collected from the coastal part of Aegean region which was selected as the study area. Out of these 17 families are distributed on saline habitats whereas sandy ones inhabit 30 families. 25 taxa occur on both habitats. Sandy areas embody one endemic taxa as well. The distribution of the taxa on floral elemental basis is as follow; 16.81 percent mediterranean, 3,87 percent Euro-Siberian, 1,29 percent Irano-Tur anian, 1,29 percent Cosmopolitan and 76,74 percent as unknown. Stem anatomy of halophytes shows that they possess a thin cuticle on outside, a layer of epidermis, followed by cortex with scleren-chymatic groups of cells in between together with stony sclerotic cells vascular bundles. Psammophytes generally possess a thick cuticle, a few layered epidermis, cortex with scleranchyma groups and stone cells. Xylem is woody in structure. Halophytes grow generally on Clayey-Loam Soil as compared to Sandy ones of psammophytes, pH of former is either medium alkaline (40 %) or slighty alkaline (60 %), whereas in the lather case 20 percent are of medium alkaline nature and 80 percent slightly alkaline. Saline soils are calcareous (28 %) or rich in calcium carbonate (72 %) » Psammophytic soils are either poor in calcium carbonate (4,8 %) or rich in it (95,2 %), 85,7 % of these are rich in organic matter and 14,2 % show a medium value. 56 % of saline soils are rich in organic matter whereas 44 % are of94 medium Cype.
