Özet
Richard Meier' in mimari tasarımı ve uygulaması olarak Los Angeles'ta, J.P. Getty Müzesi, mimari özellikleri tezimizin araştırma konusudur. Bu çalışma, J.P. Getty Müzesi'nin tasarımı, mimarisi ve doğal aydınlatma tekniklerini ele alır. J.Paul Getty'nin resim, heykel ve tekstil, mobilya eserlerini kapsamına alan koleksiyonu için yapılmış olan bu müze, çevresinde Araştırma Enstitüsü, Oditoryumu, çalışma ofisleri, restoran ve kafeleri olan büyük bir sanat kompleksidir. 20. Yüzyıl Modern müze mimarisinin önemli bir kültür merkezi örneği olarak kabul edilen J.P. Getty Merkezi, sanat tarihi, mimarlık tarihi ve çağdaş sanat müzeleri kavramlarını içinde incelenerek tezimizde değerlendirilmektedir. Tezimiz, Modern mimarinin gelişimi içinde J.P. Getty Müzesi mimari olan Richard Meier'in 20.Yüzyıl modern mimarisi içerisindeki yerini, tasarım özelliklerini belirlemektedir. Meir'in. mimarlık tarihinin belleğine yönelmesini, antik Roma mimarisinden etkilenmesini ve mimari üslubunu anlatmaktadır. Meier'in, müze tasarımları arasında, Getty Müzesinin yerini belirlemektedir. Getty Müzesinin, Geç Modern mimarinin en yetkin örneği olarak mimarlık tarihinde aldığı yer saptamakta, mimari ve doğal aydınlatma planları detaylı incelenmiştir.J.P. Getty Müzesi'nin tasarım hedefleri, amaçları ve mimari özellikleri ele alınmış, Doğal ışık kullanımıyla müze mekanlarının, Araştırma Enstitüsünün ve çalışma mekanlarının, özel tekniklerle hazırlanan doğal aydınlatmasının enerji tasarrufuna olanak sağlayan ve eserlerin korunmalarını gerçekleştiren sistemi ayrıntıyla ele alınmıştır. Meier beyazı, İtalya'dan özel olarak getirtilen traverten ve alimünyum kullanımıyla J.P.Getty Merkezi'nin malzeme seçimi belirlenecek ve bu seçimin Merkezin yapı topluluğuna kazandırdığı görsel ve mimari nitelikleri kapsamına almaktadır. Bu çalışmayla J.P.Getty Merkezi'nin, 20. Yüzyıl Modern Müze mimarisinin tasarım özelliklerini tanımlayan müzeler arasındaki yeri belgelenir. Hazırlanan bu çalışma, J.P.Getty Merkezi'nde yapılan ve 6 ay süren çalışmalarda elde edilen belgeler ve bilgilerile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışma süresi içinde elde edilen bilgiler ve belgeler, kaynaklardan elde edilen verilerle birlikte değerlendirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın, ülkemizde yeni oluşmaya başlayan, Çağdaş Müze Mimari'si ve doğal aydınlatma kavramına örnek oluşturması hedeflenmiştir.

The J.P. Getty Center, build at greenery in Bel Air, looking at Pacific Ocean, downtown and whole Los Angeles used to belong to Jean Paul Getty but now it is a property of a public 20th Century contemporary art museum. The J.P. Getty Center has been constantly whispering something to architects and designers who had become titans of their fields; attracting art-lovers, travellers, students of architecture for almost 20 years. Located in the Bel Air, The J.P. Getty Center is like a hidden treasure for Los Angeles and a unique source of inspiration for designers with its different architecture than its contemporaries, art collection, architectural drawings, scale models, antiques, busts, furniture, even bizarre objects and highly functional and sustainable architectural design. The J.P. Getty Art complex, which is a unique museum, cultural, and educational facility. Getty has a major impact on the cultural life not only of California but also of the entire state and the world. Being considered as“The Master of Light and Space”in world's history of architecture, the architect of the J.P. Getty Museum is Richard Meier. The inspiration that the J.P. Getty Museum has had from Hadrian's Villa will provide a reference from the cultural perspective for a museum of antiquities particularly since California is similar to the Mediterranean region. Future museums will take this as a model.Beyond no doubt, the most enchanting and extraordinary 20th Century Museum design of Los Angeles, belongs to J.P. Getty Center with its naturally lited and well lighted and airy atmosphere created by masterly use of natural light sources and the architecture that inspired by antique Roman architecture and design details. The project prepared as a PhD. dissertation on the J.P. Getty Museum, as an example of 20th Century Modern Museum Architecture from the aspect of art history, architectural history and the concept of contemporary art museums. The first goal is to be the positive influence this PhD. dissertation will have upon the acceleration of the development of Art Museums in Turkey. The development of Art Museums in Turkey since 1980 through the year 2000 has been remarkable. I expect that my thesis on the J.P. Getty Museum's Architectural Design and lighting will serve as a model for other museums to follow. The thesis will be published both in English and Turkish with this purpose in mind. The second goal is attempting to show how contemporary art collections and activities blend with and guide the design and architecture of a building. The Getty Museum will provide a background for studying this aspect. The purpose is to bring to light the design goals, purposes and architectural features of the J.P. Getty Museum. The conclusions reached will form a foundation for debating the values and concepts in the light of developing museums of modern art in our country. In conclusion, the main goal of this PhD. Dissertation is to ephasise the importance of architecture and naturally lited museums and galeries. The criteria for lighting will be based on four major pillars. The first will be providing a true vision for the spectator. The second is eliminating the harmful effects of artificial lighting upon the art exhibited. Emphasis will be placed upon the advantages provided by natural light. The third is bringing to the forefront the advantages of utilizing natural lighting techniques from the ecological point of view. The fourth is exploring the best means of utilizing floor plans to create the best way of exhibiting works of art. Colors and their light reflecting value as well as the meaning of types of surfaces created will be examined from the point of view of their lighting properties. Apart from being a museum, the Museum is also an unequaled educational area and a valuable library for students of Architecture. This modern museum in the center of Los Angeles is a remarkable example of the life of a well-to-do Modern and sustainable green architecture. The architect, Richard Meier, who made a name for himself in the 20th and 21st century, of the love for his profession, of his architectural and of his techniques in natural light genius.
