Özet (Çeviri)

The dissertation studies the reasons causing Russia to get involved in the Ukrainian conflict. In order to enlighten the topic in question, social constructivism and neorealism are considered appropriate in terms of their interpretations on the balance of power, anarchy in international arena, the importance of identity and so on. Thereafter, the key factors of contemporary Russian foreign policy such as the unique position of President Putin and the importance of national identity and the place of the great power rivalry causing a conflict of interest between Russia and Western Alliance over Ukraine are detailed. Afterwards, the underlying reasons entailing Russian involvement in the Ukrainian conflict such as the geopolitical importance of Crimea and the eastward enlargement of the EU and NATO as a threat to Moscow's interests in the Near Abroad are scrutinised. Consequently, the study assumes that Russia has taken its side against anti-Russian movement in Ukraine and its opponents in the world politics.
