This thesis is a study about of the book named“Sherh-i Divânn Hafız”for Sürûri Muştapha Muslihu 'd-ÖÎn b. Shacbân (d.969/1561-62), who is a well known writter and scholar of Turkish Literature in the IX / XVIth century. Sürûri wrote his this work to comment on The Divân for Hafız of Shlrâz. This manuscript book in two volumes has a private place on account of Persian and Turkish Literatures, also n one of the first Turkish commentaries written to explanation The Divân for Hafız and contains much basic materials of classical Persian Literature, as being significations, senses and the materialls necessary to comment the literary texts. The book is important on account of illuminates the mentality and literary sides of Hafız who is a very important person of Persian Literature, and at another side reflects accumulations of Turkish knowing and scholar men. The cause which gave the opinbn us to profit from his book, is the eulogizes that discuss from his scientific level at old sources and at another side he had a valuable rhetoric book named Bahru'-I ma°ârif discussing from significations and metaphors of classical literature. Sürün, the writter, in his this book comments the poems of Hafız in a mystical view. So it has been offered an important work which might reply to the need of source at mystical significations and metaphors, to the attention of literature and science world. Our study in spite of connected with Persian Literature, has been prepared in a form that might service to whom studies at the Turkish Literature which has a lot of common directions with it. It has been tried to recognize from near the writer who has seen critiques from someways. At the entrance chapter, the knowledges which have been obtained from sources, have been given with outlines, because of there were another studies about this subject. It is possible to find Sürüri's mentality between his sights that explained about Hafız of Shirez and his mentality, in the second chapter under the title of meaning and in the topics of the system and the explanations about significations and senses. In the first chapter has been introduced the commentary of The Drvân for Hafız. In this chapter is the produce date of the work and why Sürün wrote the book. The libraries that contains reproduced of Sürûri1 s work, numbers for its copies and the defin'ites of this manuscript which in two volumes are in this chapter, too. In the second chapter we have mentioned about properties of this commentary. Its system and methods have been analysed by us. In the subject of meaning we have explained what Sürûri and other orientalists are thinking about the mental world of Hafız. And It has been mentioned about his grammatical statements which have passed in this commentary. We have performed wide the subject of his opinions about the significations and metaphors of the classical literature, ought to reflect his thoughts completely and shown differents between copies of The Divân for Hafız that mentioned by Sürûri. In the third chapter of our study we have shown the places of metaphors, allusions, similes, representations, senses, significations, and a lot of knowledges which is necessary to analyse the literary texts, under the title of explained words and terms. For the proper nouns, the place names and the book names which passed in the commentary we have performed alphabetic indexes. And for the verses of Kuran, the traditions of the Prophet Muhammed and the other Arabic sentences have been performed indexes at their each places.
