Özet
Kontak baskı, fotoğraf çekiminden elde edilen negatif serisinin karanlık odada fotoğraf kâğıdıile birebir temas ettirilmesi ve agrandisör altında pozlandırılması sonucu elde edilen pozitif baskısıdır. Klasik karanlık oda fotoğrafçılığının ayrılmaz bir parçası, film kullanılarak yapılan dokümanter fotoğrafçılık disiplinin en önemli basamağıdır. Aynı zamanda görüntünün nasıl inşa edildiğinin, hangi aşamalarla“esas”fotoğrafa ulaşıldığına dair otomatik bir teşhistir. Talbot'un icat ettiği, 19. yüzyılda tuzlu kâğıda işlem yaparak elde ettiği baskıları bilinen ilk kontak baskılardır. Yöntemin ortaya çıkışıyla birlikte, özellikle jelatin tabanlı film döneminde fotoğrafçıların başvurduğu ve arşivleme yaptıkları kontak baskılar, sayısal fotoğraf işleme dönemine gelinene kadar yaygın biçimde kullanılmıştır.

Contact printing is the positive print made by placing the negative series obtained from the photoshoot into direct contact with the photo paper and exposed with the enlarger in the dark room. Classical darkroom is an integral part of photography and the most important step in documentary photography discipline using film. At the same time, it is an automatic diagnosis of how the image is constructed, with what stages the“essential”photo has been obtained. Talbot's own invention salted paper prints in the 19th century are the first known contact prints. With the emergence of the method, contact prints that the photographers used and archived were widely used especially in the gelatin-based film period, until the digital photography period. As a standard practice from the second half of the 20th century, with the rise of newspapers and illustrated news magazines, contact prints have created a common network of communication and production between the photographer, editor, agency and magazine. With the development of printing techniques, it has become practical for people to access information, and quick and accurate use of photos has got easy. This thesis focuses on a limited part of contact prints belonged to Ara Güler, who is the doyen of the Turkish photography, one of the most important photographers who created almost their entire archive during the negative film period. The thesis is not only about the people, places and situations he photographed, but also for examining and evaluating the information about Ara Güler's photographic style, the forms of application he developed in the background. This information has been compiled and created by interviewing other experts who had the opportunity to work with Ara Güler about his working style and principles and recording these interviews. Not only the position Ara Güler took behind the camera, but also his experience, success and knowledge in the darkroom allowed him to have his place among the top photographers, to be self-confident and to act independently. This thesis, which includes text and limited number of work of art analyzes regarding the subject, aims to contribute to the academic research in photography.
