Özet
Toplumun gelişmesi, sosyoekonomik olarak gelişmesi, teknolojik ve bilimsel gelişmeleri yakalayabilmesi eğitim sayesinde mümkündür. Eğitimin etkileyen her bir değişken önemle incelenmelidir. Çağımızda teknolojik gelişmeler eğitimi olumlu yönlerde etkilese de bazı değişkenler günümüzde hala önemini korumakta eğitim kalitesinin olumlu ve olumsuz olarak etkileyebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Antakya ilçesinin genel coğrafi özelliklerine, eğitim coğrafyasının ilişkili olduğu bilim dallarına, eğitimin bireysel, toplumsal, siyasal ve ekonomik işlevlerine değinilmiş ve Antakya ilçesinin nüfusunun yapısı ortaya konulmuştur. Bölgedeki okur-yazar oranının yıllara göre değişimi, nüfusun eğitim durumu, öğrenci, öğretmen, okul, derslik sayıları değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca çalışma Antakya'daki temel eğitim sorunlarına sayısal verilerle bakılmış ve çözüm önerilerinde bulunulmuştur. Çalışmada yer alan tablo, grafik ve haritalar Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu Genel Nüfus Sayım Sonuçları, Adrese Dayalı Nüfus Kayıt Sistemi verileri, Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı, İl Milli Eğitim ve İlçe Milli Eğitim verilerinden yararlanarak oluşturulmuştur. İlçedeki eğitim durumları, eğitim istatistikleri eğitim coğrafyası bakımından ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.

It is possible for the society to reach the desired level, to achieve socio-economic development, and to catch technological and scientific developments through education. Each variable affecting education should be examined with importance. Although technological advances affect education positively in our age, some variables still remain important today and may affect education quality positively and negatively. In this study, the general geographical characteristics of Antakya district, the branches of science to which education geography is related, the individual, social, political and economic functions of education are mentioned and the structure of the population of Antakya district is put forward. The changes in the literacy rate in the region by years, the educational status of the population, the number of students, teachers, schools and classrooms were evaluated. In addition, the study examined the basic education problems in Antakya with numerical data and suggested solutions. The tables, the graphs and the maps of the study were obtained using the data from Turkey Statistical Institute Census Results, Address Based Population Registration System, Ministry of National Education, Provincial National Education and District National Education. The educational statuses in the district and the educational statistics are tried to be put forward in terms of educational geography.
