Özet
Bu çalışmada Postmodern-Minimalist anlatı yazarlarından Jean-Philippe Toussaint'in ilk romanı“Banyo”(La Salle de Bain,1985) göstergebilimin sunduğu inceleme yöntemleri bağlamında ele alınıp araştırılmak istenmiştir. Çalışmamız“Postmodernizmin Genel Çizgileri”,“Yeni Roman ve Jean-Philippe Toussaint”ve“Göstergebilimsel Bir Okuma”başlıklarından oluşmaktadır.“Postmodernizmin Genel Çizgileri”adlı birinci bölümde, postmodernizmi oluşturan koşullar ve postmodern dünya düzeni açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu çerçevede, postmodern kuramın tarihsel gelişimi incelenerek, postmodern sanat anlayışının ilk olarak hangi sanat dallarında ortaya çıktığı araştırılmıştır. Birinci bölümün son başlığında, postmodernizmin edebiyat üzerine etkileri incelenerek, postmodern anlatıyı oluşturan; üstkurmaca tekniği, metinlerarasılık, çoğulcu yaklaşım ve öznenin konumu gibi postmodern anlatı özellikleri açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmamızın ikinci bölümünde, postmodern edebiyatta bir kırılma noktası olarak nitelendirebileceğimiz“Yeni Roman”hareketi, Nathalie Sarraute, Michel Butor ve Alain Robbe-Grillet gibi öncü yazarların düşünceleri doğrultusunda ele alınmıştır. Bu çerçevede bir“Yeni Yeni Romancı”olarak nitelendirilen Jean-Philippe Toussaint, yazar kimliği ve minimalist yazın anlayışı incelenmiştir. Çalışmamızın analiz kısmını oluşturan“Göstergebilimsel Bir Okuma”başlıklı son bölümde, Ferdinand de Saussure öğretisinden hareketle, Paris Göstergebilim Çevresi kurucularından Algirdas Julien Greimas'ın sunduğu çerçevede göstergebilim kuramları ve göstergebilimsel çözümleme yöntemleri incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda Jean-Philippe Toussaint'in“Banyo”adlı postmodern-minimal anlatısı göstergebilimsel yöntemler doğrultusunda incelenmiştir. Bununla birlikte postmodern anlatıların özelliklerinden“Metinlerarasılık”yöntemi Julia Kristeva ve Mikhail Bakhtine gibi araştırmacıların görüşleri çerçevesinde incelenmiş ve çalışmamızın son bölümünde“Banyo”adlı metin, metinlerarası yöntem doğrultusunda çözümlenmiştir. Jean-Philippe Toussaint,“Banyo”adlı yapıtında, minimalist yazını doğrultusunda, dünyayı az sözle açıklamaya çalışmıştır. Bu çerçevede, zamanın akışına direnen sıradan bir birey üzerinden, postmodern toplumsal yaşama eleştirel bir yaklaşım ortaya koymaktadır.

In this study, in the context of analysis methods presented by semiotics, it is aimed at examining ''The Bathroom'' which is the first published (La Salle de Bain, 1985) book of Jean-Philippe Toussaint, one of the Postmodern-Minimalist narrative writers. The study consists of three main headings. The first part is“Main Lines of Postmodernism”, the second part is“Le Nouveau Roman and Jean-Philippe Toussaint”and the third part is“The Semiotic Analysis of Bathroom”. In the first part, it is aimed at explaining in which conditions postmodernism exists and what postmodern world order is. Within this perspective, by approaching the historical development of postmodernism, it is examined in which branches of art postmodernism stands out first. In the last subheading of the first chapter, the effects of postmodernism on literature were examined and in the context of Postmodern literary methods, metafiction technics, intertextuality, pluralistic approach and position of the subject which were observed in postmodern narratives were tried to be explained. In the second part, Le Nouveau Roman, which emerged as a branch of Postmodernism, was examined. Jean-Philippe Toussaint who stands out between other minimal writers and his writings were mentioned by dwelling on minimal literature in this study. In the third chapter, the narrative, ''Bathroom'', which is the subject of our study, was examined in the light of the semiotic methods which is presented by Greimas by sectioning within the context of the Actantial Model. The narrative which consists of three different sections is examined in temporal and spatial dimensions and the characteristics of the characters in the narrative have been tried to be revealed. In consideration of obtained data, the loneliness, alienation, and inertia patterns in the text have been revealed and observed. In the last part of our study, the text,“Bathroom”was examined in terms of intertextuality as it is an important feature of minimal narratives. As the effects of abstract painting are dominant, abstract paintings and pioneers are mentioned in terms of intertextuality. Jean-Philippe Toussaint, in this text called, "The Bathroom'', tried explaining a lot with few words with his unique minimal style. He developed a critical way of approach to the existence of society during postmodern life, in which an ordinary individual who is trying to resist the movement of time and who wants to feel the awareness of the flow.
