Özet
11. -12. yüzyılları arasındaki Kudüs betimlemelerinden oluşan bu eser, seyehatname türü niteliğine sahiptir. Eseri yazan kişi Würzburglu John Poloner hac ziyareti için Kudüs'e gitmiştir. Würzburglu John'un kim olduğu hakkında kendisinin bize Würzburg Kilisesi'nde bir rahip olduğunu bildirmesinden başka hiçbir şey bilinmemektedir. Würzburg piskoposu John'un eseri özellikle Kudüs olmak üzere Kutsal Topraklar betimlemesini içerir. Ayrıca kitabın kapağında, içerik tablosunun yanında“Würzburg piskoposu John tarafından”ibaresi yer alır. Bunun ötesinde Würzburglu John hakkında hiçbir şey kesin değildir. Kutsal Topraklar betimlemeleri dikkatli bir şekilde incelendiğinde kendisinin hac ibadetini Kudüs Krallığı'nın kuruluş döneminde yaptığı kesin olarak anlaşılmaktadır. Bu eser Kudüs'ün coğrafyası açısından önemlidir. Eserde anlatılan mekânların tamamının yazar tarafından bizzat görüldüğünü söylemek mümkün değildir. Yani anlatılan yerler müellif tarafından görgü şahitliği ile kaleme alınmamışıtır. John Poloner aktardığı yerlerin bazılarını bizzat görmüş, bazılarını da ikinci şahıslardan aktarmıştır. Bu yönü ile eser ana kaynak değeri taşımaktadır. Yazar John Poloner'in dili Ortaçağ Latincesi'dir. Betimlemelerinin geneli açık ve belirgin olup kitabın eğitimli bir insan tarafından yazıldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Fakat bilgilerin fazlaca karışık olmasından kaynaklı kullandığı notların düzenli olmadığı görülmektedir. Semavî dinler tarafından kutsal sayılan Kudüs şehri, dört bin yıllık bir geçmişe sahiptir. Kudüs'ün tarihsel gelişimi M.Ö. 2000 yılında Kenânilerle başladı. Hz. Davud M.Ö. 1015'te Kudüs'te krallığını kurdu.

11. -12. This work, which consists of depictions of Jerusalem between the centuries, has the characteristic of a travelname. The author of the work, John Poloner from Würzburg, went to Jerusalem for a pilgrimage. Nothing is known about who John of Würzburg was except that he told us that he was a priest at the Würzburg Church. The work of John the Bishop of Würzburg includes a depiction of the Holy Land, especially Jerusalem. In addition, on the cover of the book, next to the table of contents, there is the phrase“by John the Bishop of Würzburg”. Beyond that, nothing is certain about John of Würzburg. When his descriptions of the Holy Land are examined carefully, it is clearly understood that he performed the pilgrimage during the foundation of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. This work is important for the geography of Jerusalem. It is not possible to say that all of the spaces described in the work were personally seen by the author. In other words, the places described were not written by the author with eyewitness testimony. John Poloner himself saw some of the places he quoted, and some he quoted from second persons. With this aspect, the work is the main source. The language of the author John Poloner is Medieval Latin. The descriptions are clear and distinct in general, and it is understood that the book was written by an educated person. However, due to the complexity of the information, it is seen that the notes he used are not regular.
