Özet
Coğrafi bilgi, bu bilgiye sahip olup yapmış olduğu faaliyetlerde kullanan toplumlara, ilk çağlardan itibaren faydalar sağlamıştır. Bir ülkenin teknolojik, ekonomik ve askeri gereksinimleri ile stratejik ve jeopolitik önceliklerinin doğru belirlenebilmesi ancak coğrafi konumun doğru bir şekilde yorumlanması ile mümkün olabilmektedir. Henüz jeopolitik teriminin tanımlanmadığı ve kullanılmaya başlanılmadığı tarihsel süreç içerisinde dahi topluluklar, imparatorluklar ve krallıklar coğrafi bilgiye sahip olamaya çalışmışlar ve bu bilgiler ışığı altında coğrafyayı daima kullanmışlardır. Devletlerin en önemli amaçlarından birisi güce sahip olmaktır, çünkü uluslararası politikanın aracı güçtür. Ancak yalnızca güce sahip olmak yeterli değildir, sahip olunan gücü muhafaza edebilme ve kullanabilme kabiliyeti de oldukça önemlidir. Günümüzdeki değişimleri, gelişmeleri, avantajları ve problemleri anlayabilmek, değişen konjonktüre, küreselleşen dünyaya uyum sağlayabilmek, uygun politikalar oluşturabilmek ancak jeopolitik değerlendirmeler ile mümkün olabilmektedir. Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada, coğrafya ve jeopolitik terimleri açıklanmıştır, çağdaş jeopolitik teorilere de değinilerek temel jeopolitik teoriler anlatılmıştır. Coğrafya ve jeopolitiğin ülkeler açısından önemi Türkiye örneği üzerinden ortaya konulmuştur. Ayrıca Türkiye'nin jeopolitik özellikleri belirtilmiştir ve diğer ülkeler ve jeopolitik teoriler açısından önemi açıklanmıştır.

Geographical knowledge has provided benefits from the earliest ages to the societies that have this knowledge and use it in its activities. It is only possible to accurately determine the technological, economic and military requirements of a country and its strategic and geopolitical priorities only by correctly interpreting the geographical location. Even in the historical process, where the term geopolitics has not yet been defined and used, communities, empires and kingdoms have tried to have geographical knowledge and have always used geography in the light of this information. One of the most important objectives of states is to have power, because the instrument of international politics is power. However, it is not enough just to have power, but also the ability to maintain and use the power that is possessed. It is possible to understand today's changes, developments, advantages and problems, to adapt to the changing conjuncture, to adapt to the globalized world, to create appropriate policies only with geopolitical assessments. From here, geography and geopolitical terms are explained in this study, and basic geopolitical theories are explained by mentioning contemporary geopolitical theories. The importance of geography and geopolitics for countries has been demonstrated through the example of Turkey. In addition, Turkey's geopolitical characteristics are stated and its importance in terms of other countries and geopolitical theories is explained.
