Özet

Blok zincir teknolojisi günümüzün en çarpıcı yeniliklerinden biridir. Kriptografi ve bilgisayar biliminin önemli konseptlerinin bir arada kullanılmasıyla oluşturulan bu sistem, ödeme sistemleri başta olmak üzere birçok iş dalında çok önemli alternatif seçenekler oluşturabilecek bir altyapı sunmaktadır. Sıklıkla duyulan kripto para birimi Bitcoin'e ilaveten, Bitcoin ile ilişkili olan ancak kendi bağımsız piyasa döngüleri de olan alternatif kripto para birimleri de vardır. Geleneksel finansal uygulamalar hala geçerli olsa da geleceğin ekonomisi olma potansiyeline sahip kripto para birimlerinin de kendi dinamikleriyle anlaşılması gereklidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı kripto paraların itibari paranın fonksiyonlarını yerine getirebilecek pozisyonda olup olmadığını incelemektir. Çalışmada; Bitcoin'in varlık olarak özellikleri incelenmektedir. Bir yatırım aracı diğer yatırım araçları ile hiçbir korelasyona sahip değilse ya da negatif bir korelasyona sahip ise bu aracın çeşitlendirme özelliği bulunmaktadır. Çalışmada incelenen dönemde E-7 ve G-7 ülkeleri borsa getirileri ile Bitcoin getirileri arasında sıfıra yakın düşük korelasyon tespit edilmiş olup, bu bulgu Bitcoin'in bir çeşitlendirme aracı olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir.

Blockchain is one of the most striking innovations of today. This system, which was created by using the important concepts of cryptography and computer science together, offers an infrastructure that can create very important alternative options in many business branches, especially payment systems. In addition to Bitcoin, there are also other cryptocurrencies that are related to Bitcoin but also have their own independent market cycles. Although many traditional financial practices are still valid, cryptocurrencies with the potential to be the economy of the future are worthy of being understood with their own dynamics. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the cryptocurrencies are in a position to fulfill the functions of fiat money. In the study; The properties of Bitcoin as an asset are examined. If an investment instrument has no correlation or has a negative correlation with other investment instruments, this instrument has a diversification feature. In the period examined in the study, a low correlation was found between the stock returns of E-7 and G-7 countries and Bitcoin returns, and this finding shows that Bitcoin can be used as a diversification tool.
