Blockchain has arisen in the last decade as a promising technology with possible applications in numerous fields such as healthcare, supply chain and finance. Its immutability, transparency, security, and decentralisation has taken significant attention in academia and industries. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the bright fields that can be empowered by blockchain technology. However, there are still considerations about the adoption of blockchain because of its performance, scalability and complexity. To narrow down the topic, Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric are chosen since it is believed that they worth examining. This work aims to compare and analyse these platforms in terms of performance and security, considering IoT applications. Thus, an IoT healthcare use case is associated with the designed work. As an implementation, performance and scalability tests are conducted on private platform networks using throughput and latency parameters. Hyperledger Caliper is used as a benchmark tool to collect and generate results in terms of these parameters. According to the findings, Fabric outperforms Ethereum in the majority of the tests.
