This research examined the impact of critical success factors to the outcome of software project success implemented by U.S.-based technology startup companies. The research was designed to answer the questions: What is the relationship between the 10 project management CSFs (the independent variable) and the success of the software project implemented by U.S.-based technology startup companies? In addition, to what extent does the founders' age group moderate the relationship between CSFs and the success of software projects implemented by the U.S.-based startup companies? A review of the scholarly literature revealed that software development activities, especially in startups, are scarce because startups use whatever software process works to support their immediate business objective. Therefore, understanding the context that characterizes software development success in startups and transferring these results to the knowledge base of the industry are the primary goals of this study. This dissertation sought to assess this gap in research by assessing the moderating effect of the founders' age group between CSFs and software project success implemented by U.S.-based technology startup companies. Specifically, this survey-based, quantitative, nonexperimental, correlational study assessed the relationships between these variables. The sample size only required 160 members.
