My thesis comes from the story of Beethoven's ,.Moonlight Sonata,'. Beethoven wanted to compose a song that allowed a blind girl to experience the moonlight by using only one sense, her hearing. Ironically, Beethoven became deaf later on in his life and was forced to rely on his knowledge of musical notation and went on to compose masterpieces. When you examine music and architecture, you will see a lot ofparallels. Both use strict guide_ lines that are used to create a result. Architecture uses space and dimen_ sions, and music uses musical notes and space, and they both have space and measurement. I am exploring this idea, and I will create an in-depth analysis by exploring how our senses affect tle spaces we are in and how these spaces can affect our memories and emotions. Universal design is a key factor in a building's design success, because the structure needs to be accessible to all and more especially those who are visually impaired. I believe that when designing a space, that's universally accessible it makes sense that music needs to play a major role in the design. Music is, in a way, the universal language. Music speaks to all of us, no matter the language we speak or where we come from and using sounds and music to elicit an emotion or to convey a point will play a large role. Music will be the most important material I use in my design. Designing space will resemble composing a song, therefore the selection of materiali and the placement ofthem will all have to flow as such.
