As a result of the diminishing role of Western European countries in the international arena and increased weight of the countries, especially like China, India and Indonesia, the importance of developing Eastern and Southern European countries for the European Union have increased. The European Union, in return, has been extending its borders through enlargement policies. From 2004 up to now, thirteen countries joined the European Union. Croatia, as of today, is the last member state country that joined the European Union as its 28th member state on 1 July 2013. In this sense, within this master's degree thesis, Turkey's economy is, mainly, examined from every dimension with respect to developments arising in Europe and around the world, questioning the possible economic consequences of the accession to the European Union.
