ABSTRACT A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON COMPUTER AIDED MODELING OF NON CniCULAR DEEP DRAWING GÖZÜBÜYÜK, A. Serkan M.S., Department of Mechanical Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Bilgin KAFTANO?LU September 1998, 160 Pages In this study, the problem of elastic-plastic deformation of non circular deep- drawing process is modeled by means of finite element method by using the finite element method codes LS-DYNA3D, MARC and PAM-STAMP. Material used in the analysis is assumed to be isotropic and obeys the von Mises yield criteria. Moreover, work hardening characteristics of the material is also considered in the analysis. A comparison between the programs is made by solving an example model in each of the programs. The example model is chosen such that all the parameters and geometry in the model are the same as they are in literature. In this way the results of the above mentioned FEM codes are compared with the results of ABAQUS in literature. The thickness strain distributions obtained by numerical solutions are also compared with the experimental results in literature. According to the results and comparisons with the experiments, PAM-STAMP gives better results for the parameters used in the thesis.
