Özet

Road transport is an indispensable part of the supply chain. Because road transport is preferred by most individuals and businesses thanks to its high accessibility, advanced transportation network, flexibility, and availability. Therefore, its use is considerably higher than other transportation methods. Although road transport provides benefits for users, it has a negative impact on the environment as the vast majority of vehicles run on fossil fuels. As a result, carbon emissions increase and therefore the greenhouse gas effect increases. Since it is known that the increase in carbon dioxide gas, which is the biggest component of greenhouse gas, is mostly caused by anthropogenic factors, various parties are trying to reduce this effect, and road transport is undoubtedly the party that affects carbon emissions. The subject of this research was inspired by this problem. With this research, it is aimed to clarify the question of how road transport carbon emissions can be reduced and whether it can be completely terminated. The researcher compiled various theoretical information on the subject and practical information was obtained from interviews with experts on the subject. Semi-structured interview, which is a qualitative method, was preferred in the research method. The interviewees were not randomly selected and they work in e-commerce and logistics service provider companies, respectively. Open-ended questions were asked to the participants and the data obtained were analyzed with the grounded method. The analyzed data were categorized with the coding book, and as a result, the theme of decarbonizing road freight transport was reached. In the findings part, it has been understood that it is not possible to completely decarbonize road transport in the near future. The main reasons for this are the reluctance of the stakeholders, the inadequacy of technological infrastructures and the inadequacy of carbon-free alternative energy production. In short, reaching zero-carbon emissions is possible with the participation of stakeholders, technological developments, legal practices, operational improvements, and turning to clean energy sources.
