The hospitality sector is increasingly becoming more important to Turkey as the Travel and Tourism industry has been expanding. Despite the positive contribution to the social and economic development of the country from the sector, there have been negative social and environment impacts caused by the expanded operations. Thus, the sector needs to commit to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable tourism. This study was aimed at investigating the understanding of CSR among the hotel employees in Turkey's tourist hotels. In order to gain this understanding of the concept of CSR, the study utilised questionnaires and semistructured interviews. Despite the study's low response rate, it was found that there is a growing awareness of the concept of CSR by hotel employees as some hotel companies have implemented CSR programmes. However, many respondents did not directly see their own role in the CSR implementation. Further, it was reviewed that hotel companies engage in CSR for image building purposes. Thus, CSR serves a more strategic role for the hotel companies by attracting more customers. The study also revealed that most respondents did not perceive the role of government in promoting CSR to be very important. The research recommends that more education is required to promote the awareness of CSR and its contribution to sustainable tourism and sustainable development.
