Özet
İnsanın çevre ile kurduğu ilişkisinin tarihsel bir boyutu vardır. Doğayı ruhsallaştıran ilkel insanın çevresi ve doğa ile kurduğu saf ilişki, tanrıyı doğa içerisinde içkinleştirmiştir. Zaman içerisinde insanın doğa içerisinde edindiği tecrübeler çeşitli dönüşümleri de beraberinde getirmiştir. İnsan daha bilgili hale gelmiş; doğaya dair sahip olduğu bilgi insanı tefekkür eyleminden tahakküm anlayışına götürmüştür. Çeşitli bilim insanlarının evren anlayışı ile de değişen doğa algısı, Sanayi Devrimi ile birlikte bir problem haline gelmiştir. Aydınlanma Çağı'nda doğa ölçeğinin en üstüne konumlandırılan insan doğayı bir meta olarak görerek doğaya yabancılaşmıştır. Çevre ve çevre sorunları gerçek manada ancak 1970'ler itibariyle tartışılır olmuştur. Bu doğrultuda, insan ve doğa problemi olarak karşımıza çıkan çevre sorunlarının günümüz dünyasında, biyolojik, psikolojik ve toplumsal olarak birbirine örülmüş bir dünya haline gelmekte olduğu görülmektedir. Öte yandan Sanayi Devrimi'nin bir ürünü olan fotoğrafın bulunuşu aynı yüzyıl içerisinde ekoloji kavramının da ortaya çıktığı bir dönemi kapsamaktadır. Bu çerçevede fotoğrafın bulunuşu ile doğa görünür olmuş; doğanın görünür olması ise bakir alanların korunmasına vesile olmuştur. 19. yüzyılda fotoğraflanan doğal manzaralar hem estetik açıdan hem de yüce olanın ruhunu yansıtan manzaralar olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu manzaraları fotoğraflar aracılığıyla gören dönemin ülke başkanları koruma kanunlarının çıkmasını sağlamışlardır. Çevreyi koruma tarihinde bu fotoğraflar referans olarak ele alınmışlardır. Ayrıca fotoğrafın teknik gelişimi doğrultusunda basılmış, yayınlanmış ve paylaşılarak çevre örgütlerine ve aktivistlere ilham olmuş ve bu sayede çeşitli iş birlikleri kurulmuştur. Bu tezin amacı fotoğraf tarihinde gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar ile birlikte günümüzde çağdaş fotoğraf uygulamalarının çevre sorunlarını ne derece temsil ettiğini belirlemek ve aynı zamanda ekoloji ile de iç içe geçen çağdaş fotoğrafın çevre bilinci yaratımında ne derece etkili olduğunu araştırmaktır. Bu doğrultuda hem Türkçe hem de yabancı dillerdeki kaynaklardan yararlanılarak örnekler ile açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. İnsan eliyle yaratılan çevre tahribatı günümüz dünyasında çağdaş fotoğraf ile görünür olmuş; bu durum da sanatçıların eleştiren, sorgulayan, çözüm üreten ve günceli yakalayan projeler üretmesine vesile olmuştur. Zaman içerisinde kendi dilini yaratan fotoğraf doğanın hafızasını estetik bir düzlemde kurgulayarak çevre için olumlu değişim ve dönüşümlere öncü olmuş ve çevre bilinci yaratımındaki rolü ve etkisini kanıtlamıştır.

The humankind's relationship with nature has a historical background. The pure relationship of the early humans with nature, who approached it spiritually, and their environment, made them perceive God as immanent in nature. The experience humans gained in nature in the course of time brought about various transformations. The extent of human knowledge increased, and their deepening knowledge about nature caused them to move from contemplation to domination over it. The shifting perception of nature along with various scientists' understandings of the universe has become a problem as of the Industrial Revolution. Placed at the top of the Scala Naturae in the Age of Enlightenment, humans became alienated from nature by considering and treating it as a commodity. It was not until the 1970s that the environment and environmental issues became visible, thus began to be discussed. Accordingly, it seems that the environmental issues, which are encountered as human- and nature-related problems as well, are becoming more intertwined biologically, psychologically and socially nowadays. On the other hand, the invention of photography, which is an outcome of the Industrial Revolution, coincides with the same century when the concept of ecology emerged. In this framework, nature became visible by the invention of photography, and it contributed to the preservation of the wilderness environment. The natural landscapes that were photographed during the 19th century showed up as scenes which both possessed aesthetic forms and reflected the spirit of the sublime. Upon seeing such scenes through photographs, the presidents of many countries of that time used their authorities in the legislative processes that led to the enactment of conservation laws. The said photographs have been used as references in the history of environmental conservation. Moreover, in line with the technical development of photography, they were printed, published and shared, and inspired environmental organizations and activists, thus contributed to the formation and promotion of various cooperative initiatives. The aim of this study is to examine and identify to what extent the works carried out throughout the history of photography and the existing contemporary photography practices can represent the environmental issues, and to study to what degree the contemporary photography, which is deeply intertwined with ecology, is influential in raising environmental consciousness. Accordingly, the findings have been clarified with examples by benefiting both from Turkish and foreign language resources. The human-made ecocide has become visible thanks to contemporary photography in today's world, which encouraged artists to design projects which are critical, question, work towards solutions and keep up with the times. Having developed its own language in the course of time, photography has paved the way for positive changes and transformations related to the environment by fictionalizing the memory of nature on an aesthetic level, thus proved its crucial impact and role in raising environmental consciousness.
