With today's global competitive environment, it has become more difficult for every business, regardless of the scale, to continue its activities and to hold on to the market. Therefore, every business management who wants to successfully sustain organizational life must take various measures to their activities. Effective crisis management practices also include such behaviours that can be exhibited before, during and after the crisis. Apart from classical management approaches, various strategic leadership styles may be needed in crisis management. Although different views have been expressed regarding the reduction of the negative effects of crises, it is accepted that a business that has entered a crisis or is at risk of crisis could emerge from the crisis with minimal damage through effective leadership management. Since crises are defined as undesirable, unavoidable, and even unlikely to avoid, the question of what leadership characteristics and behaviours should be for an effective leader to cope with is coming up. In this respect, the relationship between leadership and crisis will be examined more closely. Therefore, the concept of crisis will be addressed and the issue of dealing with the crisis or effective crisis management will be discussed. In this context, together with the theoretical dimension of the study, the crisis and crisis management concepts, leadership and the effects of leadership characteristics on crisis management have been clarified through secondary and, quantitative and qualitative data. The study was eventually concluded with results and discussion.
