Özet
Kar oranının düşme eğilimi, ekonomi politik alanındaki en tartışmalı teorilerden biridir. Bu teoriye göre, sermayenin organik bileşimindeki artışlar sonucunda kâr oranları düşme eğilimindedir. Teorinin tutarlılığı ve ampirik çalışmaların onu ne ölçüde desteklediği konusunda tartışmalar devam etmektedir. Literatürde çeşitli kâr oranı ölçümleri geliştirilmiş, teorinin iç tutarlılığı üzerine zengin tartışmalar yapılmış ve bu konudaki mevcut çalışmaların yetersizliği vurgulanmıştır. Bu da tezin ana motivasyonunu oluşturmaktadır. Kar oranlarının düşme eğilimi ve karşıt eğilimler kısaca gözden geçirildikten sonra, bu çalışma teorinin içsel tutarlılığını değerlendirecektir. Ardından, literatürde kullanılan kâr oranı ölçüm yöntemleri analiz edilecek ve alternatif bir kâr oranı hesaplaması geliştirilecektir. Bu çalışma, alternatif bir kâr oranı ile, 36 OECD ülkesinin imalat sanayisini kapsayan geniş bir veri setini kullanarak, kâr oranlarının düşme eğiliminin açık ve örtük hipotezlerini test edecektir. Ayrıca, Marxist kavramların ampirik geçerliliği de çalışma içerisinde sorgulanmaktadır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, kar oranlarının düşme eğiliminin geçerli olmadığı saptanmıştır. Sermayenin organik birleşimi ve üretkenlik gibi kavramların da birbirleriyle ilişkili olmadıkları yapılan testler sonucunda saptanmıştır.

The tendency of the rate of profit to fall is one of the most controversial theories in the field of political economy. According to this theory, profit rates tend to decrease as a result of increases in the organic composition of capital. There are ongoing debates about the consistency of the theory and the extent to which empirical studies support it. The literature has developed various measurements of profit rates, engaged in rich discussions on the theory's internal consistency, and highlighted the inadequacy of existing studies on this subject, which serve as the main motivation for this thesis. After providing a brief overview of the theory of falling profit rates and counteracting influences, this study will assess the theory's internal consistency. Subsequently, the variations in profit rate measurements will be examined, and an alternative profit rate calculation will be developed. This study will test the explicit and implicit assumptions of the theory using a large data set covering the manufacturing industries of 36 OECD countries with an alternative profit rate. Also, the empirical validity of Marxist concepts is questioned in the study. As a result of the analyses, it was found that the falling rates of the profit is not valid. As a result of the tests, it was found that the concepts such as the organic composition of capital and productivity are not related to each other.
