Özet (Çeviri)
Lakes are important environments for biodiversity even though they make up less than 1% of the Earth's land surface. Turkey has an extensive range of topographical diversity and is host to numerous bodies of water. It is located at the intersection and transition locations between multiple biogeographic domains. Twenty-three different types of lake water masses are used to classify Turkish Lake Systems; two of these types of lakes are artificial, while the remaining lakes are natural. These typological data were used in this thesis to choose lakes for sampling. The objectives were to examine the Chironomus (Diptera: Chironomidae) fauna in various lake typologies using morphological and molecular methods, to assess the lakes' physicochemical and environmental characteristics, and to correlate the abundance of relevant taxa. A molecular analysis of 96 larvae was performed utilizing the COI gene region sequences in the DNA barcoding technique, and 1183 Chironomus larvae were identified morphologically. As a result of this study, 18 different taxa were identified morphologically, and 16 taxa were analyzed using the DNA barcoding technique. With the exception of the members of the plumosus group, where the COI gene region analysis was insufficient for differentiating, it was found that the morphological and molecular results supported each other in the majority of Chironomus genus members. The results of statistical analysis indicated that the following factors are crucial in differentiating lake typologies: conductivity, orthophosphate, iron ion, chloride, temperature, pH, altitude, fecth ratio, and nitrogen compounds. Consequently, the number of known taxa in the genus Chironomus increased to 18 with an addition of 11 new records for the Turkish fauna. All identified species are described in full, including morphological descriptions, images, phenetic relationships, intraspecific genetic distances, and distribution areas in lentic systems. In addition, ordination methods were applied to display the relations between confirmed Chironomus taxa, the environmental characteristics and lake type criteria used in determining the lake typologies.
