Özet
ailelerinin çoğunlukla ekonomik durumu orta düzeyde olan, çekirdek aileler oldukları ve baba mesleği hariç grupların sosyo-demografik açıdan benzer oldukları görüldü. Araştırma kapsamında yapılan eğitimin oral sorunların görülme durumunu etkilemediği (parmağı ağıza götürme p=0.28, dişetlerinde kaşınma p=0,28, vb.) ancak görülme sürelerini, anlamlı olmasa da nispeten kısalttığı (parmağı ağıza götürme p=0.06, dişetlerinde kaşınma p=0.02, vb.) görüldü. Yapılan eğitimin bölgesel sorunların gerek görülme durumunu (göz yaşarması p=0.03, gözlerde kırmızılık p=0.04, vb.), gerekse sürelerini azaltmada daha etkili olduğu (açık renkli burun akıntısı p=0.02, vb.) görüldü. Araştırma kapsamında yapılan eğitimin, sistemik sorunların görülme durumunu azaltmada fazla etkili olmadığı (subfebril ateş p=0.27, orta ishal p=0.49, öksürük p=0.76, vb.) ancak görülme sürelerini oldukça kısalttığı (subfebril ateş p=0.02, orta ishal p=0.009, öksürük p=0.01, vb.)görüldü.SUMMARY THE EFFECT of NURSE EDUCATION for FAMILIES on PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED by CHILDREN RELATED to TEETHING This experimental study was designed to test the effectiveness of nurse education for families on the prevention of problems experienced by children related to teething. The data were collected during a two-year period at the Well Baby Clinic of the Istanbul Medical Faculty, Woman and Child Health Research and Training Unit. A random sample of 76 families attending the clinic during the period November 13, 1997 and January 26, 1999 were selected for participation in the study. All children included in the study conformed to the following criteria at the beginning of the study: no teeth, healthy, height, weight, and head circumference in between the 3rd and 97th percentile, mother not working outside the home during the study period, and parents willing to participate in the study. After agreeing to participate, all families completed a questionnaire prepared by the researcher and her adviser based on a review of the literature. The control group was given a follow-up form to fill out, without receiving any special education. The experimental group received an educational session and an educational booklet developed based on a review of the literature before receiving the follow-up form. Families in both groups were asked to fill out the follow-up form for the 1 1 days following the eruption of their baby's first tooth. Families in the control group were given an educational session and the booklet after they submitted their follow-up form. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 6.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. Analytical methods used included frequency distributions, student t-tests, and chi-square tests. According to the results of the study, participating children had the following characteristics: age 4.93±1.54 months, the majority were receiving breast milk along with supplemental foods, mother's education primary or junior high school, father's education high school, most mothers were house wives, most fathers were government workers, most were of middle economic status, and living in nuclear families. Except for father's occupation, the two research groups were similar in terms of socio-economic characteristics. According to the results, the education given as part of this study did not affect the reported occurrence of oral problems (putting fingers in mouth p=0.28, itching gums p=0.28, etc.). However, the reported duration of oral problems was less in the experimental group problems (putting fingers in mouth p=0.06, itching gums p=0.02, etc.), if not always statistically significant.
