Özet
Bu çalışma, Cumhuriyet dönemi Türkiye'sinde sporun toplumsal, kültürel ve eğitim boyutlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın odak noktası, dönemin resmi spor kurumu olan Türk Spor Kurumu'nun yayımladığı Türk Spor Kurumu Dergisi'dir. Tezde amaç, bu dergideki yazılar üzerinden Cumhuriyet'in spor politikalarının topluma, kültüre ve ideolojiye nasıl yansıtıldığını ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmada, Cumhuriyet'in modernleşme hedefleri ve ulus-devlet inşası bağlamında sporun rolü analiz edilmiştir. Bu kapsamda dönemin spor eğitimi, beden terbiyesi anlayışı ve kitle sporunun toplum üzerindeki etkileri de değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmada nitel içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Türk Spor Kurumu Dergisi'nin 1936–1938 yılları arasında yayımlanan tüm sayıları kapsam olarak seçilmiştir. Dergideki yazılar tematik açıdan incelenerek sporun toplumsal işlevleri, kültürel temsilleri ve ideolojik vurguları belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada özellikle gençlik, kadın, eğitim, halk sağlığı ve ulusal kimlik temaları üzerinde durulmuştur. Dergi içeriklerinden hareketle, dönemin resmi spor politikaları ve eğitim anlayışı çerçevesinde yorumlar yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre Cumhuriyet'in ilk yıllarında spor, modernleşme ve ulus inşası süreçlerinin bir aracı olarak görülmüştür. Türk Spor Kurumu Dergisi'nde spor faaliyetleri sadece fiziksel eğitim ve rekreasyon olarak değil, toplumsal dayanışma ve kültürel gelişim unsuru olarak da ele alınmıştır. Yazılarda, gençlerin ve kadınların spora katılımının teşviki, Batılı spor branşlarının tanıtımı ve halk sağlığının güçlendirilmesi gibi hedefler vurgulanmıştır. İdeolojik açıdan ise spor, laik ulus inşası, ulusal bütünleşme ve modern vatandaşlık bağlamında sunulmuştur. Yayınlarda spor aracılığıyla toplumsal değerlerin, disiplin ve ahlaki gelişimin desteklenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu tez, Cumhuriyet'in spor politikasının sosyal, kültürel ve ideolojik boyutlarına dair kapsamlı bir değerlendirme sunmaktadır. Türk Spor Kurumu Dergisi'nde yer alan yayın politikası ve temalar, dönemin devletçi ve ulusçu spor anlayışını yansıtmaktadır. Sporun kitlelere yaygınlaştırılması ve halkın spora teşvik edilmesi modern Türkiye vizyonunun bir parçası olarak görülmüştür. Bu çerçevede çalışma, sporun toplumsal yapılanmadaki rolünü ve kültürel dönüşüm sürecine katkısını vurgulamaktadır.

This study aims to examine the social, cultural, and educational dimensions of sports in Republican Turkey. The focus of the research is the Turkish Sports Institution Magazine, published by the official sports organization of the period, the Turkish Sports Institution. The purpose of the thesis is to reveal how the Republic's sports policies were reflected in society, culture, and ideology through the articles in this magazine. The role of sports within the context of the Republic's modernization goals and nation-state building has been analyzed. Within this scope, sports education, physical training understanding, and the impact of mass sports on society during that era were also evaluated. The study employs a qualitative content analysis method. All issues of the Turkish Sports Institution Magazine published between 1936 and 1938 were selected as the scope. The articles were thematically examined to identify the social functions of sports, cultural representations, and ideological emphases. Particular focus was placed on themes such as youth, women, education, public health, and national identity. Interpretations were made based on the magazine contents within the framework of official sports policies and educational understanding of the period. According to the findings, in the early years of the Republic, sports were seen as a tool for modernization and nation-building processes. In the Turkish Sports Institution Magazine, sports activities were addressed not only as physical education and recreation but also as elements of social solidarity and cultural development. The articles emphasized goals such as encouraging the participation of youth and women in sports, promoting Western sports branches, and strengthening public health. Ideologically, sports were presented within the context of secular nation-building, national integration, and modern citizenship. The publications aimed to support social values, discipline, and moral development through sports. This thesis provides a comprehensive evaluation of the social, cultural, and ideological dimensions of the Republic's sports policy. The publication policies and themes in the Turkish Sports Institution Magazine reflect the statist and nationalist sports understanding of the period. The popularization of sports and the encouragement of the public to engage in sports were seen as parts of the vision of modern Turkey. Within this framework, the study highlights the role of sports in social structuring and its contribution to the process of cultural transformation.
