In recent years, the increasing complexity of electronic circuit design, along with the growing demand for low power consumption and high performance, has encouraged researchers to explore new approaches beyond traditional methods. In this context, artificial intelligence, particularly artificial neural networks (ANNs), has emerged as a powerful alternative in circuit design and optimization processes. Due to their ability to learn complex input–output relationships, model nonlinear behaviors, and accelerate design iterations, ANNs have become an increasingly valuable tool in electronic engineering. This thesis investigates the applicability of ANN-based techniques in two distinct domains: automated circuit design and the linearization of RF power amplifiers (PAs). Traditional EDA tools such as Cadence, LTspice, and AWR enable efficient circuit simulation and layout; however, the parameter tuning and optimization phases still rely heavily on the designer's expertise. As the number of design variables increases, exploring the vast and nonlinear design space becomes infeasible through manual iterations. This limitation has sparked significant interest in learning-based and data-driven methodologies that can predict, optimize, and generalize circuit behavior with reduced human intervention. In the literature, circuit design methods are predominantly based on analytical formulations or trial-and-error and parameter-sweeping techniques, which often struggle to balance key performance metrics such as dynamic range, distortion, and power consumption. Achieving near-optimum designs typically requires repeated simulations and heavy reliance on designer expertise, leading to increased computational cost, extended design time, and energy inefficiency. Although tunable or adaptive circuit architectures have been introduced to address parameter sensitivity, their flexibility is inherently constrained by additional hardware requirements. As modern analog and RF circuits become increasingly complex, conventional methods fail to efficiently explore large design spaces or capture nonlinear dependencies between circuit parameters and performance metrics. Consequently, data-driven methodologies, particularly artificial neural networks, have emerged as powerful tools capable of learning nonlinear input–output relationships, accelerating optimization, and automating circuit synthesis with minimal human intervention. Over the past two decades, various optimization techniques such as Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) have been widely applied to analog design problems. While these techniques improved design efficiency compared to brute-force parameter sweeping, they still required extensive simulation iterations to reach convergence. More recently, learning-based approaches such as Artificial Neural Networks, Bayesian Optimization (BO), and Reinforcement Learning (RL) have demonstrated the ability to model nonlinear dependencies between circuit parameters and performance metrics, significantly accelerating design cycles. On the RF front, conventional digital predistortion (DPD) techniques typically employ fixed coefficients in an open-loop configuration. Although these methods can partially mitigate nonlinearities, they fail to effectively compensate for dynamic distortions that vary with frequency, temperature, or operating conditions. To address these limitations, feedback-based (closed-loop) linearization systems have been proposed, allowing real-time adaptation of the predistortion model. However, such architectures introduce additional hardware complexity, latency, and potential stability issues, which significantly reduce efficiency and increase implementation costs in high-frequency applications. This thesis comprises two independent studies based on artificial neural networks. The first focuses on automated circuit design, where ANNs are employed to achieve high accuracy and computational efficiency in determining optimal circuit parameters. The second focuses on the linearization of RF power amplifiers, proposing an adaptive, feedback-free ANN-based digital predistortion method that achieves effective linearization while reducing computational complexity through frequency-adaptive coefficient estimation. In the first part of the thesis, the automation of the circuit design process is targeted to ensure that circuits meet the desired performance criteria. For this purpose, an ANN-based model is developed to predict circuit parameters that achieve the target dynamic range (DR) values for specific cutoff frequencies. The model is trained using data obtained from AWR simulations and implemented in MATLAB. Three cutoff frequencies, 140 kHz, 150 kHz and 160 kHz, are considered during training and testing. The overall prediction accuracy reaches 98.876%, with capacitor value accuracy at 99.283% and bias current prediction accuracy ranging between 96.548% and 99.433%. These results demonstrate that the proposed ANN model significantly shortens the lengthy trial-and-error cycles of conventional design methods, reducing overall design time while improving consistency. Consequently, ANN-assisted design automation proves to be a reliable, fast, and effective approach for modern circuit engineering. In the second part of the study, a frequency-adaptive neural network digital predistortion (NN-DPD) method is developed to mitigate the nonlinear behavior of RF power amplifiers. The proposed model enables a single network to operate efficiently across different carrier frequencies, providing both flexibility and reduced computational cost. MATLAB-based simulations verify that the NN-DPD outperforms conventional fixed-coefficient DPD methods. The normalized mean square error (NMSE) is measured as –38.87 dB at 1.9 GHz and remains below –35.79 dB across all tested frequencies. Additionally, the 1 dB compression point of the PA improves from –6.88 dBm (without DPD) to 7 dBm (with NN-DPD). These results confirm that the proposed method enhances linearization performance and power efficiency, while also reducing the phase difference between the input and output signals. The original contributions of this thesis can be summarized in two main aspects. First, the usability of artificial neural networks in electronic circuit design is demonstrated, achieving high parameter prediction accuracy. This approach provides significant time savings compared to traditional methods, reduces engineering effort, and makes the design process more systematic. Second, the frequency-adaptive NN-DPD method developed for RF power amplifiers allows a single model to be used across different frequency bands, improving practical applicability while lowering computational complexity. In conclusion, the ANN-based techniques developed in this thesis provide effective solutions for both circuit design automation and the linearization of RF power amplifiers. The achieved accuracy and performance improvements demonstrate that AI-assisted circuit design is becoming a key component of modern electronic engineering. The results reveal the potential of artificial intelligence to reduce engineering workload, improve accuracy, and enhance efficiency in electronic design. Moreover, extending these methods to more complex circuit topologies, broadband communication applications, and different neural network architectures provides a valuable direction for future research. In the long term, these findings may support the development of more autonomous and adaptive circuit design methodologies. The proposed approaches can also guide future studies on improving design generalization, reducing training time, and enhancing the robustness of ANN-based models under varying operating conditions. As circuit complexity continues to increase, the integration of artificial intelligence into electronic design automation (EDA) workflows is expected to play a transformative role, bridging the gap between traditional design experience and intelligent computational modeling. In this sense, the study contributes to shaping a new generation of efficient, knowledge-based, and adaptive analog and RF circuit design frameworks. In summary, this study shows that artificial intelligence can make circuit design faster, more accurate, and more efficient, leading toward smarter and more automated analog and RF systems in the future.
