Özet
Anadolu'nun merkezinde yer alan Kappadokia, stratejik konumu ve ulaşım kolaylığı sayesinde tarih boyunca birçok medeniyete ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Hellenistik ve Roma Dönemleri'nde Kappadokia kentlerinin sikkeleri üzerinden bölgenin inanç dünyasını incelemektir. Araştırmanın odak noktasını sikkeler oluşturmakla birlikte, arkeolojik, epigrafik ve antik edebi kaynaklardan da yararlanılarak tanrılar ve kültler, festivaller, ritüel uygulamaları ve kutsal alanlar tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. İnanç araştırmalarında yerel kültlerin önem arz etmesi ve süreklilik ile değişim unsurlarının tespit edilebilmesi amacıyla, inceleme çerçevesi Geç Hitit Dönemi'nden Geç Antik Çağ'a kadar genişletilmiştir. Tezin kapsamını Kappadokia'da sikke darp eden kentler, Kaisareia, Tyana, Komana- Hierapolis ve Kybistra oluşturmaktadır; ancak kültsel nitelik taşıyan diğer yerleşimler de kültlerle bağlantıları ölçüsünde çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Bugüne kadar bölgedeki inançlara dair araştırmalar, genellikle tek bir kent ya da belirli bir kült odağında ele alınmış, bu nedenle Kappadokia kültlerinin bütüncül bir değerlendirmesi yapılmamıştır. Bu tez, söz konusu eksikliği gidermeyi amaçlayarak kentlerin kültleri, kentler arası farklılıklar ve kültlerdeki süreklilik ile değişimleri bütüncül bir çerçevede incelemektedir.

Located in the center of Anatolia, Cappadocia hosted numerous civilizations throughout history, thanks to its strategic location and ease of transportation. The aim of this study is to examine the religious world of the region through the coins of the Cappadocian cities during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Although the primary focus of the research is on coins, archaeological, epigraphic, and ancient written sources have also been utilized to elucidate the gods and cults, festivals, ritual practices, and sanctuaries. To emphasize the importance of local cults in religious studies and to identify elements of continuity and change, the scope of the investigation has been extended from the Late Hittite Period to Late Antiquity. The scope of the thesis comprises the cities in Cappadocia that minted coins: Kaisareia, Tyana, Komana-Hierapolis, and Kybistra; however, other settlements with cultic significance have also been included in the study to the extent of their connections to these cults. Until now, research on the beliefs in the region has generally been conducted with a focus on a single city or a specific cult; therefore, a comprehensive assessment of Cappadocian cults has not been undertaken. Aiming to address this gap, this thesis examines the cults of the cities, the differences between them, and the elements of continuity and change within the cults within a holistic framework.
