Özet
Bu tez çalışması, sanat tarihi boyunca dönüşen beden kavramını ele alarak, bedene yönelik müdahaleler üzerinden bu dönüşümün nasıl sorgulandığını araştırmaktadır. Bedenin tarihsel değişimi Antik Yunan, Orta Çağ, Rönesans, Aydınlanma ve Modernizm dönemleri üzerinden ele alınarak, bu süreçte ideal, normatif ve işlevsel beden anlayışının nasıl şekillendiği incelenmektedir. Özellikle 20. yüzyıldan itibaren çağdaş sanatta bedenin sabit bir form olmaktan çıkarak deneyimlenen, müdahale edilen ve dönüştürülen bir alan haline geldiği vurgulanmaktadır. Performans sanatı bu dönüşümün en görünür alanı olarak değerlendirilmiş; bedenin temsil edilen bir nesne olmanın ötesinde üretim ve direniş alanı haline geldiği örneklerle analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca protezler, biyoteknolojik müdahaleler ve posthümanist yaklaşımlar, bedenin sınırlarını yeniden tanımlayan pratikler olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Çalışma, sanat tarihi, felsefe ve eleştirel yaklaşımlardan yararlanarak farklı dönemlere ait eserleri karşılaştırmalı olarak inceler. Çalışmada, kusursuzluk idealine dayanan yaygın beden anlayışına karşı çıkılır ve kusurluluğun aslında bedenin doğal ve temel bir özelliği olduğu savunulur. Bu doğrultuda beden; sabit ve idealize edilmiş bir yapıdan ziyade, sürekli dönüşen, kırılganlığı ve eksikliği de içeren değişken bir varoluş alanı olarak ele alınır. İşlevsizlik ve kusur kavramaları ise yetersizlikten çok, normatif beden anlayışını sorgulayan ve alternatif varoluş biçimlerini mümkün kılan alanlar olarak yorumlanır. Ek olarak kişisel sanatsal üretimler üzerinden bedenin işlev, sınır ve algı biçimleri tartışılarak, eksiltme, kısıtlama ve deformasyon temelli uygulamalar aracılığıyla bedenin sabit değil, sürekli yeniden biçimlenen bir yapı olduğu ortaya konur.

This thesis examines the concept of the body as it has transformed throughout art history, investigating how these transformations have been questioned through various interventions directed at the body. The historical development of the body is discussed through the periods of Ancient Greece, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and Modernism, focusing on how ideal, normative, and functional understandings of the body were constructed during these eras. Particular emphasis is placed on contemporary art since the twentieth century, where the body has ceased to be a fixed form and has instead become a site of experience, intervention, and transformation. Performance art is evaluated as one of the most visible manifestations of this shift, and examples are analyzed to demonstrate how the body has become not merely an object of representation but also a space of production and resistance. In addition, prosthetics, biotechnological interventions, and posthumanist approaches are discussed as practices that redefine the boundaries of the body. Drawing on art history, philosophy, and critical theory, this study comparatively examines artworks from different periods. It challenges the dominant understanding of the body based on ideals of perfection and argues that imperfection is, in fact, a natural and fundamental characteristic of the body. Accordingly, the body is approached not as a fixed and idealized structure but as a dynamic field of existence that continuously transforms and encompasses fragility and incompleteness. The concepts of dysfunction and imperfection are interpreted not as deficiencies but as conditions that question normative conceptions of the body and enable alternative modes of existence. Furthermore, through the analysis of the author's own artistic practice, the study explores the functions, boundaries, and modes of perception of the body. Through applications based on reduction, restriction, and deformation, it demonstrates that the body is not a stable entity but a structure that is constantly being reshaped and redefined.
