Özet

ÖZET Toplumun temelini oluşturan ailelerin, bir parçası olan konutlar, sadece ailelerin güven içinde yaşamalarını sağlayan bir barınak değil; aynı zamanda toplumun alışkanlıklarının ve geleneksel yaşantı tarzının kültürel bir ifadesidir. Toplu konutlar da, hangi tipte yapılırlarsa yapılsınlar, toplum yaşantısına uyum sağlayacak şekilde tasarlanmalıdırlar. Kuzey Kıbrıs' daki konut uygulamalarına baktığımızda, 1974' e kadar, ada genelinde gerek iklime gerekse toplum yaşantısına uyum sağlayan bahçeli konutların çoğunlukta olduğu ve kentlerin, bu konutlarla kimlik kazandığı görülmektedir. Adada, bahçeli konuttan toplu konuta geçişi başlatan ilk uygulama, 1980'li yıllarda devlet eliyle yapılan bahçeli sıra ev tipindeki toplu konutlardır. Bu konutlar; dönemin koşullarına, toplum yaşantısına ve iklime uygun tasarlanmış, uzun yıllar boyunca kentlerin gözde yerleşmeleri olmuşlardır. 1990'lı yıllarda devlet, bahçeli sıra ev tipinden vazgeçerek, daha az alan gerektiren, apartman tipindeki toplu konutları üretmeye başlamıştır. Ancak apartman tipindeki bu konutlar, toplum yaşantısına ve iklime uygun tasarlanmadığından, hiçbir zaman bahçeli sıra ev tipindeki toplu konutların yerini alamamışlardır. Bunun yanında, aynı yıllarda adadaki üniversitelerin artmasıyla birlikte, artan konut talebini karşılayabilmek adına, özel sektör de apartman tipi toplu konut üretimine başlamıştır. Özel sektöre ait konutların da, toplum yaşantısına uyum sağlayamadığı görülmüştür. Artan apartmanlaşma nedeniyle kentler, kültürel kimliklerini kaybetmektedirler. Bu araştırmayla, Kıbrıs'daki toplu konut uygulamalarının, toplum yaşantısına uymayan yönlerinin tespit edilerek, bundan sonraki uygulamalara yol göstermesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın ilk dört bölümü, kaynak taraması yöntemiyle oluşturulmuş kavramsal bilgileri içermektedir. Beşinci bölüm; kaynak taraması, anket ve gözlem çalışmalarıyla konut tiplerinin incelenmesi ve değerlendirilmesinden oluşmaktadır. Sonuç bölümünde ise toplu konutlarda toplum yaşantısına uymayan yönler tespit edümiş, elde edUen bulgular, anket ve gözlem sonuçlarına dayanılarak, bazı çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur. IX

ABSTRACT Houses are the parts of the families who form the basis of the society. Houses are not only the shelters for families to live in safety, at the same time, they are the cultural expressions of traditional life styles and habits of the society. Mass housing must be designed to adapt according to the life style of the society as well. When we look at housing applications in Northern Cyprus until 1974, we can see detached houses which are suitable for climate and traditional life style of society and we can see the cities that have their own architectural identity which was formed by these detached houses. The first mass housing application in the island was the detached row houses that were built by the government in 1980. These row houses were designed according to the climate of Northern Cyprus and the life style of the society. Thus, these row houses were the favourite settlements of cities in Northern Cyprus. In 1990, the government gave up the idea of building detached type row houses in order to use less building site and the government started to build apartment blocks instead of detached type row houses. However, these apartment blocks have never been preferred to row houses because of the unsuitable project designs in case of climate and life style of the society. As the increasing number of universities in the island, house demand was also increased. In order to cover the house demand, the private companies started to build unsuitable houses (mostly apartment blocks) for the society and university students. Because of the increased apartment blocks in cities, cultural identity loss is seen in all cities of Northern Cyprus. This research is aiming to determine the unsuitable parts of the mass housing applications and to show how to get the best applications for mass housing in Northern Cyprus. The first four chapters of the research are formed by the method of written source information scanning and these four chapters have theoretical information. The fifth chapter is formed by investigation and evaluation of the existing house types by the help of the method of written source information scanning, poll and observation studies. In conclusion, unsuitable sites of the mass housing were determined and according to the findings, poll and observation results, some solutions have been suggested.
