Dr. Ali İhsan ÜNAY Eylül 2001, 99 sayfa Bu çalışmanın amacı, mimarlıkta ve yapı konstrüksiyonunda strüktürel malzemeler ile yapısal form arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi ve tarihteki dönemsel sosyal yaşantı değişimlerine genel bir bakışla, bu ilişkinin mimari ve yapı tasarımı üzerindeki etkilerinin tartışılmasıdır. Mimari tasarım genel anlamda, binaların karmaşık gereksinimlerinin mantıklı, uygulanabilir ve estetik bir şekilde çözümlenmesini amaçlar. Yapının genel formu bir çok faktörle ilişkili olsa da strüktürel ve fonksiyonel ihtiyaçlar genel görünümü belirleyen en önemli unsurlardır. Dolayısıyla, yapıların sağlamlığı ve strüktürel sistemi oluşturan elemanların kapasiteleri, malzemenin fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleriyle doğrudan ilgilidir. Bu çalışmada, yapı malzemelerinin tarihsel gelişim süreci içerisinde strüktürel sistemlere ve mimari yapılara etkisi incelenmiş, gelecekte malzeme biliminde meydana gelebilecek gelişmelerin, mimari ve strüktürel tasarımı nasıl etkileyeceği araştırılmıştır.

Prof. Dr. Ali İhsan ÜNAY September 2001, 99 pages The aim of this study is to analyze the interrelation between structural materials and structural form in architectural history and to discuss the effects of this relation on architectural and structural disciplines with a general overview on social conditions of a particular era. Architectural design aims to fulfill the complex requirements of any built form by means of rational, feasible and aesthetic terms. In spite of the fact that the overall form of a building is intimately related to many parameters, the most significant factors are the structural and the functional demands. As a consequence, stability of the built form and the capacities of elements constituting the structural system are intimately related with the physical and the mechanical features of the material. Analyzing the effect of structural materials on structural systems and architectural forms in historical development, this study explores how the further developments in material science could act upon architectural and structural design.
