Özet
Türkiye'de tarihi dokuda yeni bina yapma pratiği Avrupa ile kıyaslandığında daha ilgi çağıran, karmaşık ve zor sorunları içeren bir süreç olagelmiştir. Mimarlık teorisi içinde konuya zengin ve farklı perspektiflerden bakılırken, yapı pratiğinde tarihi doku içinde yapılan yeni binalar çevre dokudaki varolan yapıların birer kopyası niteliğinde, çevre yapılarla görsel benzerlik kaygısı içinde üretilmektedir. Avrupa'da ise, genel olarak, hem teoride hem pratikte daha özgür ve yenilikçi bir tutum görülmektedir. Bu çerçevede, bu tezin amacı, tarihi dokuda tarihi mirasın ve varolan bağlamın yorumlanması yoluyla yeni bina yapma konusuna bir yöntem önerisi geliştirmektir. Bu amaç için Avrupa'daki inşa edilmiş çağdaş örnekler göz önüne alınarak, her duruma uyarlanabilecek yöntem ve süreci, araçlarıyla birlikte kurmak hedeflenmiştir. Yöntemin uyarlanabilirliği ve duyarlılığı, Türkiye'de Muğla için yapılan bir tasarım ön araştırmasında kullanılacaktır. Tez boyunca“Yeni bir bina nasıl hem dönemini yansıtabilir hem de var olan daha önce kurulmuş ilişkilerden, tarihi bağlanımdan, izler taşıyabilir?”sorusunun cevabı araştırılmaktadır. Bu sebeple, çalışma Avrupa'nın tarihi kentlerinde inşa edilmiş beş yeni binayı incelemektedir. İnceleme, tarihi dokuda yeni binatasarlamanın farklı ölçeklerde kriterlere bağlı olduğunu ve yeni eklemelerin çevrelerine zıt, aynı zamanda çevreleriyle etkileşim içinde olabileceklerini göstermektedir. Yöntem Muğla'nın tarihi dokusuna alternatif bir proje önermek için uygulandığında, sadece elde edilen farklı ölçeklerdeki kriterlerin değil, kriterlerin tikel bütünlük düzeylerinin ve bunun niteliğinin de pek çok tasarım seçenekleri sunduğu görülmektedir.

Designing a new building in historic context has been constituted to be a more pressing practice with certain particular impositions on the designer in Turkey than in Europe. In architectural theory, this issue is handled in productive and different perspectives; whereas in practice, new buildings designed in historic contexts are produced as simply copies or resemblance of the existing surrounding buildings with intended constitution of visual similarities. In Europe, on the contrary, it can be perceived that attitudes in both theory and practice seem to be more converging and homogenous. Within the scope of these criteria, the main objective of this thesis is to bring forth a method for designing a new building in historic context through the interpretation of objects of historical heritage and the existing context. For the sake of this aim, being aware of the contemporary examples built in Europe, the main intention of this study is to construct a method and a process, including their proper tools. The appropriateness and adaptation of the method could be inquired in a project in/for Muğla in Turkey.Throughout this study, the response of the question,“how could a new building both reflect its period, and also have traces from the existing pre-established relations within its historical context?”is inquired. Therefore, the study makes use of the five selected new buildings constructed in historical European cities. By means of the analysis of these buildings, it can be grasped that there are criteria of different scales for designing a new building in historic areas and new additions may contrast and, at the same time, create a dialogue with their environments. When the method is applied to the historical fabric of Muğla to propose an alternative project, it is seen that not only derived criteria at different scales, but also the city, their level and potential of integrity and quality may bring forth numerous design alternatives.
