The basic scope of my doctoral thesis on public relations consists of communications technologies and ideal utilization solutions of these technologies for corporations For this reason, I started out in my thesis, with the definition of the concept of communications and the sub-dynamics of this fact. In Chapter 1, where the questions“What is communications?”and“What should it be?”are answered, I mentioned the titles of“The Source and The Target”which forms the basic communication structure,“Coding and Deciphering”in relation to the required ciphering or coding for preparing the message,“The Message ”for the message structure and“Feed-Back”a basic function of communication. Another topic I have mentioned under the title of communications is; I have mentioned the basic communication models made until now. While choosing these models, I have included some of the generally accepted basic definitions. Because my final objective was an ideal communications structure, it was necessary to review models that had been benefited from previously, to draw up the model of this structure and form a healthier model. Following all these activities, I mentioned shortly the basic objectives of communication and mentioned the last topic of Chapter 1,“Preparation of the Communication strategy”. After the short information I gave on communication, I entered the Chapter 2 topic, which is“The Corporation and Communications”. The determination of the corporate and communication needs, had priority over the ideal solutions I was going to offer. For this reason, I mentioned very shortly the corporate identity and corporate image. As this topic was in a different area of expertise, it was more appropriate to give definitions only and pass on to the requirements of internal communications of the corporation. Communications between institutions and the standards peculiar to communications between corporations is another topic of Chapter 2. Immediately after the standards, I shortly mentioned globalization and one of its derivatives“Glocalisation”. It is important that those who are interested in the profession of public relations know this concept, in terms of the projects they will do. Another important point of view is CRM. This knowledge has to be known by the public relations expert. Therefore, he should take over the quality of this communication element from the marketing communication. For this reason, I have included an extensive account of CRM, MIS and data rnining definitions and how they are applied. Data mining, in particular, affects the whole organization structure and its communication policy deeply. At the end of Chapter 202, there exists a section where the project management logic in corporations is explained and sections where implementation definition is taken up with a new point of view. Chapter 3 was wholly devoted to the technology and its sub-components. After the review of communication and the communication structures in the corporation, the detailed studies, related to what the technology is, were placed in this chapter. I have given an extensive account of“Technology and Changing Society”to show that technology is an integrated whole of structures that directs the society, rather than a bundle of definitions. Everything is for man. Technology, on the other hand, is a tool. The main course of the changing society should be changing with this eye. For this reason I have included in this section, topics like: The Human Factor, Ergonomics, Home Office, SOHO, Central Office, Community, Virtual Community, The Social Effects of Internet, Chat, Bulletin Board Service (BBS), Information-Knowledge, Knowledge Theory, The Society of Knowledge, Infotainment, Knowledge Management, the Society of Intelligence, News Group, Privacy, Echelon, Spam, Netiquette, ARPANET, Usenet, Hacker and Cracker, Meta, Binary, Method, Object, Class, Matrix Syndrome. It is quite difficult to grasp the inclinations of the society without knowing these definitions. Chapter 4 is an intermediate passage of my thesis. In this chapter, I have mentioned very shortly, the reflections of the equilibrium of technology and communications onto the models. New processes bring new models. For this reason, I have chosen the topics of synchronous communication, asynchronous communication and inter process communications. Chapter 5, is another important topic of my thesis. In this chapter“Communications Technologies”are reviewed in detail. The public relations expert has to know these definitions and concepts well. Because, the newly prepared communications plans utilize these concepts, too. This chapter includes: definitions and concepts, software, hardware, connections, communication networks and structures, communication system functions, technology types, area networks and their types, wireless communication and an application model based on these. Along with these, I have included devices and tools utilized in communication technologies. I classified these devices and tools in a general categorization as network devices and tools, data transportation-recording devices and tools, personal communication devices and tools, and organizational communication devices and tools. 21Communication technologies have entered all aspects of life and created a new understanding. Like I have mentioned in the topic of The Society and Technology. Another element is e-life, a new understanding formed by technology, in the life of the individual. I have reviewed this topic in Chapter 6, in a wide perspective, from education to the structure of the State. Technological development affects all the system. Change is fast and continuous. Technological developments continue to create new perspectives and new directions. For this reason, in Chapter 7, 1 mentioned topics related to the dimensions of the developments in new technologies. These topics include: artificial intelligence, nano-technologies, Internet 2, fuzzy logic and intelligent machines, holograms and simulation. Chapter 8 is related to how new technologies really look from the side of the corporation. After a short account of the general direction, I reviewed the topics of technology components, modern organization theory and active companies. Chapter 9, contains the dimension, in Turkey, of the realistic technological approaches reviewed in Chapter 8. Under the title of Turkey and communications technologies, I reviewed topics such as the history of wide area networks, formation of the Turkish Internet (tr-net) and technology usage in Turkey. Chapter 10 is related to, how all of the topics I have reviewed reflect to or need to be reflected to the area of public relations. In this Chapter titled Technology and Public Relations, the topics of public relations and technological infrastructure and public relations and communications technologies, have been reviewed in detail. Chapter 11, is related to the manner in which all the structures explained, both with definitions and applications starting from Chapter 1, should be utilized in the internal communications of the corporation, in Turkey. This systems aggregate, sets forth clearly my doctrine of how an ideal communication should be. Chapter 11, titled“Public Relations Based Communications Structure Sample for Corporations in Turkey”includes ideal network applications for corporations, e-PR applications, B2B applications, e-learning applications, intranet applications and Internet applications. And, Chapter 12 is the“Results”section including the results derived from all the studies and applications done. 22
