THE EFFECTS OF SERIES COMPENSATION ON THE CRITICAL CLEANING ANGLE SUMMARY Key words : Series compensation, series capacitor, critical cleaning angle. Electric power systems were disjunctive and independent in die earlier years. With the improving of technology these electrical conduction systems were connected each other with the high-tension lines. In the end, today's great energy conduction systems came into existence. Two parameters have great importance in energy conduction system. These parameters are tension and frequency stability. Energy sources are distant from the loading centers. The distances causes to the differences of the electrical energy. Electrical energy quality increases by means of the effects of line resistance, and the effects of the capacitance, which was made with the soil in the line conductors. The Compensation is an important factor to get the quality again. The Reactive power compensation is important in terms of the reactive and active power. The series compensation gets power current control of the connected line by means of series connected capacities. Nevertheless it gets reactive power necessity of the line. It decreases the series compensation stability. Series compensation was started to control by thyristor with the developing of power electronics. Depending on the developing of technology series compensation's application areas increased. In the earlier period series compensation systems were controlled by pass of the series capacities using mechanical switching. Then thyristor controlled series compensation systems developed by means of developments in power electronics. The problems that were in classic series compensation were disappeared with this method. We can explain the stability in electrical power systems as turning back to original ability. If the system has a demolishing effect, it can turn back to the ability for the working conditions before the demolishing effect. The power system stability shows the synchronous position of the various synchronous machines in the system. The unsteadiness shows the position of synchronous disappearing. The demolishing effect in a power system is a sudden change or changes series of physical size or system parameters. The synchronous generator is usually used for electric production in electric power systems, so all the synchronous machines, which are in the system, are wanted to be in synchronous position. For this reason the power system stability may be affected from power angle relation and generator's rotor angles dynamic. The series reactance value of energy conducting line decreases when the series capacitors are connected to the line. The maximum power value of the line increases after the series compensation. On the outer hand the value of power angle (So) decreases. That is to say, energy can be carried with less 8 angle, as a result of it, the power of line increase and synchronized power grows. All of mem cause improving of temporary enterprise stability. As a result of decreasing of series reactance value, the critical cleaning angle value mat is one of the effects of temporary condition stability; increases. When the system is subjected to a demolishing effect, the value increasing of critical cleaning angle has an importance to collect of the system. In this thesis the effects of series compensation to the critical cleaning angle were examined with a simple line. XIX
