Ill SUMMARY The study aims to critically evaluate the recent changes in the media systems of some major Western European Countries in order to obtain the elements of discussion in the already started debate for the regulation of the Turkish Radio and TV broadcasts. In the first part of the study, general themes evoked in the debate about the privatisation strategies concerning the broadcasting media institutions in Western European Countries are analyized. It is aimed to reach an inventory of the views in favour or against the privatisation in broadcasting media. Then, through a brief country by country analysis specific conditions behind each experience is tried to be displayed. The second part of the study gives an overreview survey of the debates in Turkey and through a comparative analysis with the findings of the first part prospects of privatisation for the Turkish broadcasting media are sought to be disclosed.
