Özet (Çeviri)

ABSTRACT In all of the religions that promise boundless salvation, that are some duties that must be realized in order to acquire said salvation. The practices that enable the believer to communicate with the God, and that bring him/her salvation are the worships. The worship means“ibadet”in Arabic and it is generated from the syllable roots of 'a-b-d'. In all of the Semitic languages including the Arabic, Hebrew and Syriac it is expressed with the same word roots of“a-b-d.”This is of crucial important in identifying the actual root meaning of the 'a-b-d' root. Although Arabic is the oldest language among them, it has no reliable sources that had been written before the Holy book Koran. On the other hand it is possible to access the Old and New Testaments texts that are written in Hebrew and Syriac languages. Said text shall facilitate us in pursuing the lost meanings of the Arabic root which we can not find in the existing texts. Because it is possible to find the meanings of some roots of the Arabic language in said texts. As Arabic is the oldest among these languages, the roots in these language should also possess same meanings in Arabic language as well. Thus when we attempt to determine the correct meanings of the roots in Koran, we have to consider the divine inspiration process as a whole, and to consider the written texts of said process. Therefore we have done our investigation through retrospective semantic method. In the introduction part of the investigation the issues including the understanding the Holy book Koran at the time when it was firs transmitted and also the importance of the retrospective semantic method were considered. The 'a-b-d' root is used as“to serve”in the Old Testament. However in some verses it also meant as“worshipping”. Hence the term worshipping is a 277definition of the term that has transformed its meaning when the relations with the humans and God are concerned. That is to say such a change in the use of the term has become effective in narrowing down the meaning of the term. Whereas in Syriac which is a divine inspiration and also a member of the Semitic family of languages, the root is used as meaning“To do, to make, to form”, 'a-b-d' root has used these meanings by all kinds of words. The root is used in Syriac“to work for others,”that is to say as“slavery”. In Syriac dictionaries it is described as a noun as“Servant, maid, slave and work, duty, service, movement and activity”. Within the integrity of Koran, worshipping means to obey to the God and to convert or transform the earth into a livable place that is compatible with his dignity through the powers that are granted to him by the God. For Koran, such regular worships are the useful practices that help him to flourish said powers, to produce and to do useful works. These practices are meaningful as much as they realize their functionalities, enable sublimation and help people in making useful, positive, constructive and valuable jobs. As a result mankind has free will carrying the qualification of caliph who is responsible from his own actions and also from improvement of the world. Worshipping is not slavery and to the contrary it an act that induces freedom, teaching mankind not to obey anyone other than God being a process enabling him to facilitate the self-realization. 278
