SUMMARY- The Use Of Aerial Photographs în Road Planning, Iran This study was done to determine the basic principles of the use of aerial photographs in the planning of forest roads in İran. Nevertheless, to emphasize importance of the study for Iran, detailed information on forests and forestry activities in Iran was given in the initial chapters of the study. On the other hand, present problems of Iranian fores try were examined by taking account of scientific forestry such as forest cadastre, the funda mental principles and technigues of construction of forest roads, and network of aresent forest roads in Iran, in the study. Morever, difficulties generating from ground methods which are used in planning of roads, and necessary basic principles to interpret aerial photographs for road projects and theoretical approaches were also discussed. Then, throuph these discussions a case study was done in Takom, Sari- Beşher in the northern part of Iran. The results of the study showed that aerial photog raphs were one of the most useful materials in the planning of forest roads in Iran, an forest road projects could be completed, more economical, more accurate in a comperatively short time by methods using aerial photographs than ground methods. In the light of these findings, it is advisable to use aerial photographs much more extensively in Iranian Forestry.
