Özet
257 ÖZET Bu çalışmada 1. baba ile birlikte olma süresinin çocuğun zekasını, akademik başarısını, benlik kavramını ve ebeveynin kabul ve red edişini etkileyip etkilemediği; 2. Babasını kabul ya da red ediyor diye algılayan çocukların zeka, akademik başarı ve benlik kavramları açısından bir farklılık gösterip göstermedikleri; 3. Babaların çocuklarıyla birlikte yaptığı faaliyetlerin yukarda sayılan alanlar üzerinde bir etkisi olup olmadığı sorularına yanıt aranmıştır. Çalışma iki aşamada gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ön çalışma olarak da kabul edebileceğimiz ilk çalışmada İstanbul ili içindeki metropolitan alanlarda yaşayan çocukların babaları ile birlikte oldukları ortalama süre ve aileye ilişkin demografik bilgiler saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla İstanbul ili içinde kalan ilkokulların % 10'unu örneklem grubu olarak seçilmiş ve bu okullardaki 3-A sınıflarına gidilerek bir anket formu verilmiştir. Ertesi gün de anket formları toplanmıştır. Ön çalışmaya 2483 öğrenci katılmış, bunlardan 1464'ü formlarını geri getirmişlerdir. "?* Ön çalışmanın sonuçları değerlendirildikten sonra belirlenen bazı kriterlere göre ikinci çalışma için çocuklar seçilmiştir. İki grubu grubunu oluşturmak üzere belirlenen kriterler şunlardır :260 Bu çalışmadan alman sonuçlar baba ile çocuk arasındaki ilişkinin niteliğine yönelik daha fazla sayıda çalışma yapılması gerektiğini ortaya koymuştur.

261 SUMMARY In this research we have tried to find the answers to following questions : 1. Whether father availability affects the child intelligence, aca demic performance, self concept and parental acceptance and rejec tion. 2. Whether there is a difference between the children who per ceive their fathers as they accept or reject with the aspect of intelli gence, academic performance and self - concept. 3. Whether there is an effect of the activities which were prac tised by father and child in the fields mentioned above. The research has been performed in two steps. In the first step we tried to find out demographic information related to family and the avarege period in which children who live in Istanbul were together with their fathers. For this purpose 10 % of the primary schools in the metropoli tan parts of Istanbul were chosen as sample group and questionaire was given to third grade children in these schools. And the next day these forms were collected.262 2483 students participated in the firs survey and 1464 students brought the forms back. Having evaluated the results of the first survey some students were chosen for the second survey according to some criteria. Here are the criteria for high father availability and low father availability groups. The features of high father availability groups. 1. The parents are alive 2. That they live together 3. That they have primary school graduation 4. That mother doesn't work 5. That the child spends two hour or more with his father during the week 6. That the child spends four hours or more with his father on the weekend. The features of low father availability groups. 1. The parents are alive 2. That they live together 3. That they have primary school graduation 4. That mother doesn't work 5. That the child spends one and a half hours or less during the week 6. That the child spents three and a half hours or less on the weekend. For the second survey 70 of the low father availability and 70 of the high father availability children were taken. Half of this group was girls and the other half was boys.263 To the students who participated the second survey : 1. WISC.R 2. WRAT, 3. PARQ (Parental Acceptance and Rejection Qestionare, 4. PAQ (Personality Assesment Inventory), 5. WIFAM (Piers - Har ris Self Concept Scale for children) were applied and fourth grade re port marks were checked. A quastionare was annaunced to the fathers of the 140 children but only 96 of them were able to participate the research. In this questionare the activities father performed with his children and the responsibilities he took about the things related to the child and questions about similar topics were asked. We can summarize the data we found at the end of the research as : 1. That the time the children spent with their fathers didn't affect verbal, performance and general I.Q. but it was found that informa tion and arithmetic subtests of children with low father availability were more succesful. When the sex factor is considered, the time spent with the fat hers does not affect the girls' I.Q. scores but it was found out that the boys who spent less time with the fathers were more successful in vo cabulary and verbal I.Q. İn relation to academic success the time spent with the father does not affect the girls' WRAT and the report card grades. However, the boys who spent less time with the fathers scored higher marks on WRAT's aritmetic subtest and in drawing. There is no affect of the time spent with the father on self concept and parental acceptance and rejection.264 2. When we look the relation between the parental accep tance / rejections and intelligence, academic success, self-concept, the children who perceived paternal rejection were negatively affected in terms of intelligence, academic success and self concept. 3. When we look at the relation between the answers given to the fathers questionare and intelligence academic succses and self con cept, only one relation was found between the number of activities performed with the father now and in the past and intelligence, and also another relation beetven the number of the activities performed with the fathers and music and draming marks. Children involved in more activieties with the fathers were more successful than the ones who were not. The results we got from this research has made it clear that more research should be done on the quality of the relationship between father and child.
