ABSTRACTATAMEL, M. Comparison of asymmetric collimated monoisocentric treatmenttechnique of Linac with symmetric collimated double isocentre treatmenttechnique of Co-60 and Linac units in head and neck radiotherapy, HacettepeUniversty, Radiotherapy Physics Master program thesis of Medical SciencesInstitute, Ankara, 2006. In this study, the dose distributions at the junction zone ofbilateral neck and SCF irradiation were compared with monoisocentric and doubleisocentric treatment technique. Monoisocentric treatment technique was investigatedby using asymmetric collimation in Linear Accelerator. Double isocentric treatmenttechnique was investigated by using symmetric collimation in Linac and Co-60teletherapy units. Double isocentric technique was examined by symmetric field andangled field techniques. In symmetric field technique neck field was irradiated at 90and 270 degree of gantry angles, SCF field was irradiated at 0 degree of gantryangle. In angled-field technique neck field was rotated until radiation divergence wasannihilated rotation an at SCF field, couch was rotated to 90 degree angle withgantry till radiation was annihilated. Dose distributions at junction zone ofAlderson randophantom were evaluated by using computer planning tratment systemand measured by using TLD and diode equipments. In symmetric field technique ledto max 125% dose point for linac and max 130% dose point for Co-60 unit. Inasymmetric field technique on the other hand maximum 107% dose points werefound. In angled-field technique it was 109%. BTPS showed that asymmetric fieldtechnique had more homogenious dose distribution when compared to symmetricangled field technique.As a conclusion symmetric field technique leads to unwanting hot spots in head andneck cancer treatment. Asymmetric field technique seems to be the best solution inorder to eliminate this problem. However when this technique is not available,angled field technique offers a good alternative.
