313 SUMMARY This study concerning the development of God concept in children has mainly got two stages. A- The first stage was applied to the elemantary school teachers whose field of work were religion and Morals. These teachers were from the different parts of Turkey and their numbers were 1103. These teachers worked for between 10 and 20 years and spent most of their lives in villages. Also these teachers were the teachers who were trained with inservice training. These findings were obtained from the enquiries which were applied to these teachers : 1- It is difficult to train these teachers who got certain education behaviours as a result of their professional experiences with inservice training. 2- A deep knowledge gap related to the fields of special training like faith, worship and morals was found in these teachers. 3- In the subject of child growth, some deficiencies especially in the development of mind, sense, social and concept were observed in these teachers. 4- On the other hand these teachers have been continuing their teaching seperately from modern education methods and contemporary education understanding which developing recently. B- The second stage of this research is connected with the development of God concept in children whose ages are 9.10.11. The enquiry of this research was applied to 305 children belonging to three socio-economical groups in Demirci which were village, slums and city center. The data which were obtained from this research were 2 tested by X and variance analysis.314 As a result of this research these findings were obtained. 1- The idea of God in small children doesn't change by religious education. When the level of abstract intelligence of child develops, religious education begins to influence the development of idea of God. The development of the idea of God shows agreement with the mental growth periods of Jean Piaget. 2- Sexual variability and living together of close relatives is ineffective in the development of God concept in children. 3- The development of God concept is abstract level in the first and second child but concrete level in the other children of a family. 4- This research shows that although the ages of parents are not meaningful in the development of God concept, the education levels of parents and the professional status of the father are meaningful and important in this subject. 5- According to the socio-cultural findings, the special religious education begins to influence the development of God concept in children after 11 years. The statistical results show that even if the parents knew Koran and gave information to their children about God, these wouldn't contribute to the development of God concept in children. 6- Also the grandmothers and grandfathers behaviours like giving information about religion and taking the children away to the mosques and commemoration of the birthday of Mohammed don't influence the development of God concept deeply. 7- The family's special preparations in the sacred nights and their behaviours like watching religious programmes like World of faith on TV don't show influence in the development of-God concept of children.315 8- When we compare these three socio-economical groups in the subject of the development of God concept we see meaningful differences between these groups. The results show that when the socio-cultural, socio-economical, socio-psychological and educational levels of the children go up, their abstract ideas also rise but their naturalistic and anthropomorphic forms of ideas decrease. While abstract development is in favour of the children in city center, It is against the children in villages.
