Özet
Bu tez çalı ması Orta Do u'nun ayrı bir bölge olarak kurgulanma ve ortaya çıkmasürecine açıklık getirmeyi hedeflemektedir. Bu ba lamda bölge kavramınınanlamı sorgulanmaktadır. Bu amaçla, co rafya disiplinin tarihsel geli imi vebölge kavramının bu geli melerle birlikte de i en anlamları üzerindedurulmaktadır. Bu teorik çerçeveye ek olarak Orta Do u bölgesinin ortaya çıkı ıve uluslar arası güç politikalarına paralel gerçekle en dönü ümü üzerindedurulmaktadır. Son olarak, Avrupa-merkezci bir kavram olarak Orta Do ukavramının cari küresel artlar dahilinde anlamı sorgulanmaktadır.

The thesis attempts to illuminate the construction process of the Middle East as aseparate region. Within this context, it first seeks to find out what a region means.For this sake, the thesis outlines the historical development of the discipline ofgeography and the changing meanings of region in line with the disciplinarydevelopments. Furthermore, it concentrates on the emergence of the regionMiddle East, its denomination and transformation along with changinginternational politics. Finally, the thesis evaluates the existence of the ethnocentricgeographical term Middle East within the context of current global conditions.
