Özet

Araştırma sonuçları öğrencinin akademik başarısının belli ölçüde öğrencinin içinde yetiştiği sosyoekonomik değişkenlere bağlı olarak yordanabileceğine işaret etmektedir. Türkiye'de yükseköğretim düzeyinde öğrencilerin akademik başarıları üzerinde etkili ailesel değişkenlerin belirlenmesinin eğitimde eşitsizlikleri azaltmak ve kaliteyi artırmak için geliştirilecek makro ve mikro düzeydeki politikalar için veri sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu yönüyle ?Öğrencilerin akademik başarısı onun ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel özelliklerinden yararlanılarak tahmin edilecekse, mevcut değişkenliğin ne kadarı bu özelliklerle açıklanabilir?? sorusuna yanıt aramak önem taşımaktadır. Bu araştırma; Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi lisans son sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyoekonomik özelliklerinin öğrencilerin akademik başarı durumu ile ilişkisini ve etki durumunu belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma; ailenin sosyoekonomik düzeyinin yüksek öğretimde okuyan öğrencilerin başarısında bir etkisinin olup olmadığını belirlemeyi amaçladığından betimsel analitik niteliktedir. Araştırma 2007/2008 öğretim yılı Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi I. öğretimde öğrenim gören lisans son sınıf öğrencileri ile sınırlıdır. Alan olarak Fen, Sağlık ve Sosyal alanlar alınmıştır. 2007/2008 öğretim yılında Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi I. öğretim lisans son sınıfta toplam 1552 öğrenci öğrenim görmektedir. Bunların 898'i fen, 216'sı sağlık ve 438'i ise sosyal alanlarda öğrenim görmektedir. Veri toplama aracı olarak geliştirilen anketle 601'i fen, 147'si sağlık ve 339'u ise sosyal alanlarda olmak üzere toplam 1087 öğrenciden veri elde edilmiştir. Hatalı ve eksik bilgi veren öğrencilerin verileri çıkarıldıktan sonra 1062 öğrencinin verileri analiz edilerek yorumlanmıştır.Araştırmanın bağımlı değişkeni öğrencinin bölüme giriş için almış olduğu ÖSS puanı ve son sınıfa gelene kadar almış olduğu genel akademik not ortalamasıdır. Araştırmada öğrencinin sosyoekonomik özellikleri olarak ise anne-babanın eğitim durumu, anne-babanın çalıştığı iş yerinin statüsü, ailelerin ikamet ettiği yerleşim yeri, kardeş sayısı, okuyan kardeş sayısı, ailenin geliri, mezun olduğu lise türü, üniversiteye girmeden önce almış olduğu eğitim desteği ve eğitim desteği için ödemiş olduğu ücretlerdir.Araştırma verileri üzerinde, değişkenler arası ilişkiyi belirlemek için korelasyon, bağımlı değişken üzerinde bağımsız değişkenlerin etki durumlarını belirlemek için ise doğrusal regresyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Elde edilen analiz sonuçlarının anlamlılık durumu p< .05 düzeyine göre değerlendirilmiştir.Araştırmada;1.Sosyal bilimlerde okuyan öğrencilerin ailelerinin sosyo-ekonomik düzeylerinin diğer bölümlere göre daha düşük olduğu;2.Genel olarak öğrencilerin okudukları bölümlere giriş puanıyla öğrencilerin mezun oldukları lise türünün, genel akademik not ortalamaları, babalarının ve annelerinin eğitim düzeyi ve ailelerinin geliri arasında önemli bir pozitif ilişki olduğu;3.Öğrencilerin genel akademik not ortalamaları ile mezun oldukları lise türü, bölümlerine giriş puanları, cinsiyetleri ve ailelerinin ikamet ettiği yerleşim yeri arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu,4.Öğrencilerin bölüme giriş puanı üzerinde bölüme girmeden önce almış olduğu eğitim yardımına verdiği ücret, cinsiyeti, ailesinin ikamet ettiği yerleşim yeri, okuyan kardeş sayısı, mezun olduğu lise türü, ailenin geliri, anne ve babasının eğitim durumu değişkenlerinin etkili olduğu,5.Öğrencilerin genel akademik not ortalaması üzerinde annelerinin ve babalarının çalıştığı işyerinin statüsü, mezun olunan lise türü ve alınan eğitim yardımının süresi değişkenlerinin etkili olduğu söylenebilir.

The results of the study indicate that the academic success of the student, to some extent, can be interpreted depending on the socio-economic variables in which the student grows up. It is thought that identifying the family-related variables affecting the academic success of the higher education students in Turkey can provide data for the policies to be developed so as to reduce the inequalities in the education and to augment the quality of the education. In this respect, it is highly important to find the answer for this critical question ?If the academic success of the student will be estimated by taking his/her economic, social and cultural features into account, then how much of the present variability can be explained by these features?? This study aims to identify the relation and interaction between the socio-economic features of the senior students in the SDU and their academic success level. Since the study aims to identify whether the socio-economic features affect the academic success of higher education students, it has the quality of descriptive analytic.The study is limited to the undergraduate senior students being trained in the University of Suleyman Demirel during the academic year of 2007/2008. Branches of Science, Medicine and Social Sciences are encompassed within the study. During the academic year of 2007/2008, there are 1552 undergraduate students in total being trained in the University of Suleyman Demirel. Of these, 898 are being trained in the branch of Science, 216 in the branch of Medicine and 438 in the branch of Social Sciences. 601 of the Science students, 147 of the Medicine students and 339 of the Social Sciences students, in total 1087 students, participated in the survey developed to gather data. 1062 participants? data were analyzed after dropping some of irrelevant and wrong given data. The dependent variables of the survey are the University Entrance Exam result of the student by which he/she was admitted to the department and general academic transcript of the student up to the last academic year. The socio-economic features of the student in the survey are the education level status of the parents, the status of parents? workplace, the settlement of the parents where they live, the number of siblings, the number of educated siblings, the income of the family, the type of the high school the student graduated, the educational background of the student before entering the university and the fee the student paid for this educational background. Correlation analysis in order to identify the relation between study data variables and linear regression analysis to identify the effect of independent variables on the dependent variables are conducted. The significance level of analysis results are assessed according to the p< .05 level.According to the results gathered in the survey; it can be claimed that1.The socio-economic level of the families of the students being trained in the branch of Social Studies is lower than the other branches,2.In general, there exists an important positive relationship between the University Entrance Exam results of the students and the type of senior high school they graduated, general academic transcript, their parents? education level and the income of the family.3.There is a positive relationship between the students? general academic transcripts and their University Entrance Exam results, their gender, their families? settlement.4.The variables of the educational background of the student before entering the university and the fee the student paid for this educational background, the gender of the student, the settlement where the family lives, the number of educated siblings, the type of the senior high school the student graduated, the income of the family and the education level of the parents affect the University Entrance Exam result of the student.5.The variables of the workplace of the parents, the type of the senior high school the student graduated and the duration of the educational support accepted by the student affect the general academic transcript of the student.
