Özet
İstanbul'un önemli kıyı yerleşimlerinden Boğaziçi'nin silüetinin dünyadaki kıyı kentleri incelenerek ve kendi kültürümüzün analizi yapılarak irdelenmesini ve öneriler getirilmesini amaçlamaktadır.Tez çalışmasının ilk bölümünde, tezin amacı, kapsamı ve çalışmada izlenen yöntem belirtilmiştir.İkinci bölümde, kentin biçimlenişi açısından çevrenin belirlenmesi, fiziksel, sosyal ve görsel çevre kavramı açısından incelenmiştir.Üçüncü bölümde, kent kavramı, anlamı ve kimliği araştırılmıştır. Sürdürülebilir kentin nasıl olması gerektiği araştırılmıştır. Kentin imajını nelerin yansıttığı, yansıtan kaynaklardan biri olan silüetin kentin imajını nasıl etkilediği ortaya konmuştur. Dünyadan kıyı kentlerinden örnekler incelenerek, bu konudaki çalışmalar araştırılmıştır. Araştırmada St Petersburg kenti; koruma, İngiltere yeniden canlandırma-geliştirme, Hong-Kong ise oluşturma-geliştirme yönünden incelenmiştir.Dördüncü bölümde, Boğaziçi`nin İstanbul kenti içinde ki önemi, coğrafi konum, politik ve sosyo-kültürel açıdan incelenmiş, tarihsel süreçte Boğaziçi'nin silüet değişiminin irdelenmesi ise Bizans Dönemi, Osmanlı Dönemi ve Cumhuriyet'den Günümüze Kadar Olan Dönem olarak incelenmiştir.Beşinci bölümde, Boğaziçi'nde alan çalışmasının amacı, sınırları ve yöntemi anlatılmış, anketin sonuçları tablolarla tanımlanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda ise, Boğaziçi'nin planlaması ve silüeti ile ilgili öneriler verilmiştir.

The silhouette of Bosphorus, one of the main coastal settlements of İstanbul, is scrutinized by comparing with the other coastal cities all around the world, for the most corresponding structure according to our cultural composition.In the first part; the aim, the content and the research methodology of the thesis are explained.In the second part; the environment, in terms of the formation of the city, is analyzed by the social, formal and the cultural identity.In the third part; the urban concept, its meaning and the identity is analyzed. The way of sustaining the city is defined. The subjects that reflects the image of the city and how the silhouette, that is one of the reflections, affects the image of the city is revealed. The examples of the coastal cities around the world are examined and the regarding studies are explored. Throughout the research St. Petersburg is taken as a model for `Conservation?, England for `Redevelopment? and Hong-Kong for `Development?.In the fourth part; the importance of the Bosphorus in the city of Istanbul is examined in terms of its geographical location, political and socio-cultural structure, whereas, the silhouette of the city is examined by it historical evolution from the Byzantium period to the Ottoman's time and from the proclamation of the republic to up until now.In the fifth part; the purpose of the regional study made in Bosphorus, its boundaries and the method, and the result of the survey is portrayed with charts. The conclusion of the research is emphasizing the ideal structure of the silhouette and the planning of Bosphorus.
