105 SUMMARY The majority of cuneiform documents in the Old Assyrian language have been found at Kül t epe. They are known as the Cap- padocian tablets and mark the transition from prehistory to the historical period in Anatolia. A large percetage of the tablets are commercial documents» İn addition there are debt contracts, court records, various list, and a few documents relating to the purchase and sale of houses and slaves and to marriage and divor- se proceedings. The traders who came to Anatolia from Assyria could only conduct their business win the permission of the local rulers. They lived outside the cities in settlements called kârum and wabartum. They brought good, such as tin, textiles and trinkets, and in exchange they exported from Anatolia gold, silver, copper, wool and precious stones. İn my thesis, I have studied 50 cuneiform documents which deal win various topics. These tablets wer® excavated at Kül te pe in 1958. 14 of these documents are debt contracts, 5 of them are court record, 13 of them are various records and lists, and 18 of them are letters. I have produced transcriptions and trans lations of these documents. They include personal names, such as ITmum and hamus'tura and other words and phrases that are already known. But there are also some personal names, words and phrases that are new. These are an important addition to our knowledge of the Old Assyrian language. For example | Texts 5917928 and 39 are found the personal names dAdad-hu- şani, îribum, Ill-atrannu, Simalânum and Warad(i)alum. İn texts 40 and 42 there are the phrases iiarranaa nadânum“to sel out on a journey”and harranam petu“to open the road”these phra ses" are rarely found in the Cappad®cia tablets.
