SUMMARY In the first chapter, the term business has been explained in general, after broadly describing the term organization and its reasons of existence. Later, businesses have been classified, and small-size and middle-size organizations have been studied. After stating that small-size and middle-size organizations do not have a common definition, their quantitative and qualitative characteristics have been studied. In addition, different definitions of small-size and middle-size organizations in the eye of the EC, the OECD and some countries taking different criterions into account have been considered. In this chapter, some definitions made by some organizations and laws in our country based on criterions of employment and capital have also been mentioned. Then, it is followed by problems of small-size and middle-size organizations. Firstly, it is proved that the problem of finance is the fundamental one among others which are caused by structures of small-size and middle-size firms. And then, troubles that is related with financial problems have been discussed. Secondly, some problems relating to personnel management have been identified. Moreover, some issues that are caused by some people who hold the ownership and management of the firm at the same time have been argued in the context of management and personnel. Afterwards, procurent problem caused by insufficiency of financial resources and that fixes the price and the quality of product has been indicated. This issue which is caused by external factors has also been mentioned. Thirdly, marketing problems have been analysed. Small-size and middle-size firms generally act in understanding of conventional marketing, attempt to production activities without making a serious research and consequently their succes and profit depends on chance. The significance and the necessity of understanding of modern marketing therefore has been emphasized. It is concluded that marketing problems have deeply rooted in insufficiency of finance and inaduquacy of knowledge. Marketing problems have been followed by exporting problems. Marketing includes international markets as well as domestic markets. That is why small-size and middle-size firms have some vital reasons to take part in international markets although there are some obstacles to access. It has been dwelt on the problems of small-size and middle-size firms which have been able to export, overcoming abovementioned obstacles. Furthermore, information on the border-trade commited in our region and the regional export problems have been evaluated.
