Özet
20. yüzyıl, tüm dünyayı etkileyen savaşlara sahne olmuştur. Öncekiyüzyıllarda gerçekleşen Sanayi Devrimi ve Fransız İhtilali'nden bazı devletlerolumlu etkilenip güçlenirken, bazı devletler olumsuz etkilenerek, yıkılmasürecine girmiştir.Yıkılma sürecine giren devletlerden biri de Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'dur.20. yüzyılda cereyan eden savaşlar, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun hızla toprakkaybetmesi ve sonunda dağılmasına neden olmuştur. Bu olumsuzluklarOsmanlı toplumunu ve aile kültürünü derinden etkilemiştir.20. yüzyıl başlarında Osmanlı ülkesine gelen Batılı seyyahlar, öncekiyüzyıllarda olduğu gibi Oryantalist çalışmalarını sürdürmüşlerdir. Batılı içinDoğu, hep bir merak ve araştırma unsuru olmuştur. Osmanlı ülkesini ziyareteden seyyahlar, gözlemlerini ve edindikleri bilgileri not alarakseyahatnamelerle okuyucuya ulaştırmışlardır. Bu seyahatnamelerden birkısmında Osmanlı toplumunun yaşam biçimi, eğitim durumu gibi kültürelözelliklere vurgu yapılır. Bu araştırmada, 20 yüzyıl Batılı seyahatnamelerdekonu edilen Osmanlı toplumunda aile kültürü ve eğitimi incelenmiştir.Seyahatnamelerden biri, bir Fransız deniz subayı Pierre Loti'ninyazdığı Doğu Düşleri Sona Ererken'dir. Pierre Loti, Osmanlı ülkesinde uzunsüre bulunmuş ve İstanbul'a hayranlığıyla bilinen bir subaydır. BalkanSavaşları'nda, Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nda ve Anadolu'nun işgalinde hepAvrupa'ya karşı Türkler'i savunmuştur. Millî Mücadele dönemindeAnadolu'daki direnişe destek vermesi ve kendi ülkesi olan işgalci Fransa'yıağır bir dille eleştirmesiyle Loti, Türk halkının da sempatisini kazanmıştır.Öyle ki, Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi 4 Ekim 1921' de Pierre Loti' yeşükranlarını sunan bir mektup yollamıştır.
