Özet
Bu tez, sosyal etkenlerin bilimsel bilginin oluşum sürecindeki rolünü incelerken ortodoks bilim anlayışını ve ona tepki olarak doğan Kuhn ve Güçlü Program'ın bilim anlayışını mercek altına almaktadır. Ortodoks bilim anlayışı bilimsel bilgiyi objektif olduğu ve sosyal etkenlerden korunduğu gerekçesiyle diğer bilgi türlerinden farklı bir yere koymuştur. Öte yandan Kuhn ve Güçlü Program, Durkheim'ın ve sosyolojinin ilk kurucularının hayallerini tersten gerçekleştirme yoluna giderek doğa bilimlerini sosyal bilimlere eşitlemeye çalışmıştır. Doğa bilimlerinden elde edilen bilginin ideolojik, metafiziksel ve benzeri birçok değerden etkilendiğini iddia ederek bilimin otoritesini sorgulanır kılmışlardır. Bu tezde amaçlanan hem ortodoks bilimin hem de Kuhn ve Güçlü Program'ın bilimsel bilginin oluşum sürecinde sosyal etkenlerin rolünü ne denli doğru yansıttıklarını tartışmaktır. Bunun yanında değerlendirmelerindeki eksikliklerin giderilmesi için alternatif bir inceleme önerilmektedir. Bu tür bir çabanın sosyal unsurların rolünün daha iyi belirlenmesine, böylece bilimin meşru sınırlarının, bilimi sıradan bir konvansiyona indirgemeden, çizilmesine katkıda bulunacağını umuyoruz.

Analyzing the impact of social factors on the formation of scientific knowledge, this thesis focuses on the orthodox scientific view as well as Kuhn's and Strong Program's approaches to science which emerged as a reaction to it. The orthodox scientific view distinguished scientific knowledge from other forms of knowledge due to the claim that it is objective and free from social influence. On the other hand, Kuhn and the Strong Program attempted to remove this distinction between natural sciences and social sciences, realizing the dreams of Durkheim and the founders of sociology even though through a reverse manner. They made the authority of science questionable by claiming that knowledge produced by natural sciences is under the influence of various values; ideological, metaphysical and the like. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how appropriately the role of social factors in the formation of scientific knowledge is presented by the orthodox science, and by Kuhn and the Strong Program. Besides, an alternative approach is proposed to overcome the deficiencies in their assessments. The expectation is that this effort will contribute to a better identification of the role of social factors and thus determination of the legitimate limits of science without reducing it to a mere social convention.
