The geodetic community has been very much exposed to database technologies due to their involvement in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), but apart from that, new developments in database methodology seems to have little impact on the present work of many geodesists. This thesis tries to catch up with recent trends in database design and applies modern ideas and tools to the architecture of a geodetic database as part of the current research of the Geodetic Department of Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute. In doing so, the overall goal of the thesis is to design a geodetic database architecture, as it is required by today's different geodetic measuring techniques, which produce a great amount of inhomogeneous and time-dependent data. The resulting database design is the foundation of all other data processing procedures like combined least-square adjustments, data analysis or data evaluation. With this architecture, the data can be processed in a very precise, fast and economical way. It also serves as the starting point for creating the KAndilli Windows Adjustment Program (KAWAP) as an inter-active object-oriented database, computation and graphics Windows program for geodetic purposes.
