367 ABSTRACT The topic of this study is »searching out Hersekli Arif Hikmet' s Divan THematically» «The aim isi to search out all poems which the divan contains. An Introduction is added to the study to make the true character of those poem clearer. The introduction part, (p. 1-19) contains those titles:“ The Development of Turkish poetry in XIX. th century and Encümen -i Şuara”and“Hersekli Arif Hikmet and His Divan».Under these titles the condition of the Turkish Poetry in the XIX. th century and its effort to renew and improve itself is ”brought to light and some knowledge has“been given about the group which Hersekli Arif Hikmet is its member as well, and called » Encümen -i Şuara”. At the same time, in this chapter, the importance of Hersekli Arif Hikmet is made clear that he had a spesifik place in the period which the aspect of the Turkish literature turned from »Divan Edebiyatı“ towards the European Literatures. Parti cularly, it is maiie clear that the poet's gazels, which were written amorously and in an epicurean spirit have an important place in his divan. The main chapter of the study is ”The Themes in the Divan“ (p. 2 3 -78). Here, the most plain themes of the poems in the divan are examined under seperated titles and explained ”by couplets taken also from the divan. The themes in the this chapter are under two main titles: I-Religious themes,11 -Secular themes. Religious themes contains those secondary titles :Allah (G-od),Hz.Muhammed(The prophet of Mussulmans), Hz. Ali(The Chalip of IYth),Hz. Hüseyin(The Younger son of Hz. Ali), Mevlânâ Celâ- leddin-i Rûmî (The Turkish sûfî and poet), and his Mesnevi,368 Kadirilik(a kind of religious order) and Abdülkadir-i Geylânî (the establisher of Kadirilik) and finally Tasavvuf (suf izm) f Secular themes contains those secondary titles : Aşk (love ), Rind -rindlik (Epicurean spirit),îçki (wine) -Eğlence (Entertainment), Meyhane (Tavern), Cehalet (Ignorance) ^Complaining about the time (Zamandan Şikayet) »Kaderden Şikayet (Complaining about fate). In the end of this chapter, the best 8 elected couplets written by the poet to give a lesson, are added under the title named »Divan» daki Hikmet Beyitleri» (The wisdom Couplets of the Divan).The chapter is ended by Bibliography, The last chapter of the thesis is named »All poems in the Divan" (Divan' daki Bütün Şiirler) and in this chapter, totally 1757 couplets are transcribed from Arabic letters to Latin letter originally.
