Özet (Çeviri)

The present study is an organismic approach to the relation of psychological well-being to human values and aspirations, including (a) a theoretical assessment of major organismic frameworks on human motivation, (b) development and testing of a new self-actualization scale (NSA), and (c) an empirical analyses of the problem. The organismic assumption that human beings have an inherent tendency toward actualization and integration, and thus wellbeing, is related to the notion of basic needs within different frameworks. Basic psychological needs are presumed to be the source of not only well-being, but also the distinction of intrinsic and extrinsic aspirations in people's configuration of values. The relevance of this distinction was supported with a sample of308 Turkish university students, who placed stronger emphasis on 4 intrinsic rather than 4 extrinsic values and aspirations, among 15 life goal categories. Well-being was assessed with measures of self-actualization, lack of depression, self-esteem and life-satisfaction. The new self-actualization scale appeared to be reliable in measuring the phenomenon. Self-actualization was positively related to the importance placed on intrinsic aspirations as well as the relative importance of intrinsic vs. extrinsic aspirations; and negatively related to the importance placed on extrinsic aspirations. Life-satisfaction appeared to be positively related to the importance placed on intrinsic aspirations. No significant relations were founded for nondepression and self-esteem, which were the two well-being measures that appeared to be most highly correlated with each other. Possible cultural influences on the satisfaction of basic needs and intrinsic aspirations are discussed, as a critical dimension of further research.
