Özet (Çeviri)

Identity development was investigated with a narrative method, as it relates to the perception of family functioning, intimacy, and psychological well-being. Fifty eight BogaziC;i University third year students wrote about how they foresee themselves five year after graduation from university in terms of different identity domains and filled in a package of questionaire consisting of communication, cohesion, ability to express emotions. ability to express interest. problem solving, roles, autonomy, hierarchy reversal with father and hierarchy reversal with mother subtests to evaluate the family functioning, balanced relatedness. closeness. and similarity subtests to evaluate intimacy, and a psychological well-being scale. The narratives were rated in terms of overall coherence and each domain was rated separately in terms of affect. flexibility, and richness. Males mentioned greater number of domain and overall had higher narrative scores than females. However when the correction was made for the greater number of domains mentioned by males, females had higher affect and flexibility and equally or even richness scores. Occupation and family domains were the most important areas these students defined their identities. There were trends indicating that ability to show emotions and interest and hierarchy reversal subtests were correlated to narrative scores, however intimacy and psychological well-being were not found to be correlated to identity development. The results are discussed in terms of the characteristics of the Turkish culture.
