Özet (Çeviri)

Nevres-i Kadim who grew up in the middle of the 18th century is an important poet and writer. He was born in Kerkük but there is not much information about his date of birth, youth and education. He started his civil service career as a secretary under Hekimoğlu Ali Paşa when he was the Minister of War for eastern provinces. After the forementioned Paşa became the grand vizier, Nevres went to Istanbul on 10 May 1732 (15 Zilkade 1 144) and settled there. After two years working as a librarian for the grand vizier, he was appointed as a lecturer to one of the Sahn Universities. After that he became a deputy judge (Naip Kadı) for the Small Court (Suğra Mahkemesi) in Üsküdar and worked as a judge in Bosna, Tokat, Filibe and Kütahya. In 1749 (1162), when he was the judge for Filibe, he was sent to Edirne for compulsory settlement on the order of Sultan Mahmud and soon after he was exiled to Resmo, Crete. Six years later he was sent to Bursa where he stayed another three years in exile. He was forgiven by Sultan Mustafa III in 1757 (1171). On 6 May 1762 (12 Şevval 1 175), he was exiled to Bursa for the second time and died a few days after he arrived in Bursa. Nevres-i Kadim wrote seven books, two of which were translations. Three of these books were written in verse and four were in prose. His books in verse were Türkçe Divan, Farsça Divan and Gazve-i Bedr. His books in prose were Tarihçe-i Nevres, Münşeat, Mebaligu'l Hikem, Tercüme-i Tarih-i Cihangir Şah. Türkçe Divan is, no doubt, his most important work. It is one of the prime examples of classical Ottoman poetry. In this thesis, Nevres' Türkçe Divan is examined and explained. The number of his works studied in this thesis as follows: 27 qasidas (kaside), 77 histories (tarih), 3 frequented poems (musammat), 148 lyric poems (gazel), 17 riddles (lügaz ve muamma), 29 quatrains, sections and verse (rubai, kıt'a ve nazım) and 16 singles (müfred). A total of 3388 verses in 317 poems have been examined. Symbols of classical Turkish poetry such as the rose and nightingale; the candle and moth; the lover, beloved and opponent triangle; the gaiety of spring and wine; the contradiction of worldliness and asceticism are also seen in Nevres' poems. He managed to add new meanings and themes to these symbols. His career expectations, financial difficulties, exile, pains of living away from home, bad luck and illness can also be found in his verses. Not only182 were his personal problems, but also social problems were embroidered into his verses. He criticised the wrong attitudes of his time and misdoings around him and warned high officials and statesmen of the possibilities they had in their hands which were not being used properly. In old texts, Nevres has been described as a poet with a special style and attitude; he has been referenced as one of the masters of the classical Turkish poetry by the literary critics of the Tanzimat era. He was a poet with strong imagination. He liked imagining contradictory things. Some of his verses have been contained in anthologies and remembered for years. His best liked verses are the ones in which he animates a thought or a dense state of mind. Nevres proved himself as a master of classical Turkish poetry after the death of great masters such as Nedim and Nabi and after the end of the Tulip Period (Lale Devri) which was a very high era for culture and art. Other important poets of his time were Yenişehirli Beliğ, Koca Ragıp Paşa, Hazık, Hamid, Haşmet, Hakim, Nüzhet, Fıtnat and Şerif. Nevres and Koca Ragıp Paşa wrote the most beautiful poems of their time.
